Line color
« on: Nov 13, 2010, 09:11 PM »
What are your feelings on line color? I know some line is supposed to become invisible under water, but I just cant get over if I can see it,the fish can see it. I have tried colored line and honestly felt it affected the fish. Do I think fish understand what line is? No, but I think in high pressure areas, they will shy from jigs that have a visible line. What say you?

Most of my jigging is for deep water lakers and I use Flo. Green line so that I can see it. I don't think the fish care.

I have used the clear, red and high-vis yellow lines.  The color line is for me and not the fish.  I don't think the fish care very much.  If they are hungry they will eat.  In case you are wondering... my mono lines, are usually #4, and no greater than #6... so it's not like it's rope.

I picked up a spool of Vicious Hi-Vis yellow 4# Ice Line and put it on a reel today. I asked to shop owner if he had any feedback on the line and he said he sold some to a guy who swears by this line. I tried the Cajun Red line last year, but it tangled too easily. I still have about 1/2 spool left of that. I am hoping the Vicious line isn't the same way. I have been happy using Fireline Crystal in 2# dia. That stuff is tough and doesn't twist. The only drawback is it hold water and will freeze when out in the open. Works great inside the shelter yhough. I've got it on 3 of my 4 reels.

thats how I do it too. Either the orange Suffix ice braid or Yellow power pro. Either way they both get a Vanish florocarbo leader of about 18inchs.

Some fish do appear to be line shy, while others will see something tied to a line as easy opportunity for food.  ;D

Line color is mostly for me.  When you fish dark stained water, it doesn't appear to make any difference.

Only very few times did I have better success with Fireline Smoke over that of Fireline Crystal fishing daytime in some translucent water.  One of those days on one of those lakes that just about everybody didn't catch fish.
