What do you use for tip-up line?
« on: Oct 10, 2010, 01:55 PM »
Just wondering what you guys like to use for tip-up line? I usually just use 30 lb braid and use a floro leader. Anyone else do something different?

I use a 50 lb braid, I think  ::) been a while since I put it on. And a flouro leader for anything other than pike.

I use 30lb polaris tip up line with a 8" 20 lb steel leader for pike. If going for eyes' I will take the leader of and use a 20 lb flou leader.

I found some Dacron/Spectra, 50lb coated braid from an on line kite supplys company. 12Bucks for 500 yards, I also use it on my cusk traps and my minnow traps ! If they can't see it they can't take it !!  ;D

Woodstock ice fishing line is a premier ice line. The braided nylon has been heat set and water proofed to reduce stretch and freezing. This line offers exceptional toughness. W carry this line in 12, 15, 18, 20, 25, 30, 40, and 50 pound test. In addition you can get the pound test you want in 50, 100, and 200 yard spools.

Benefits and Features:

•Low stretch line
•will not freeze or absorb water
•Various pound tests to suite many ice fishing situations
•Quality manufacturer
•Strong and durable ice line

To this I add a 4 to 6' leader of 6 lb mono or floro.  (fishing for trout and walleye)

I use 30lb Musky Master braid with several different leaders. I use flouro, thin wire, titanium, and some braids.  Mixed results with all, just use different ones for different situations.

30# green dot Dacron from Cabela's. It is a bit costly but worth every penny. lasts for years and doesn't soak up water.
If fishing was work I'd never be sick!

Many choices...I need to change mine out.  On two I have 20# flouro, and the other two that black nylon braided tip up line.  That stuff holds water, not a good choice.  It freezes up the spool bad, sucks to deal with.

I just picked up a 1000 YARD spool of braided 50# polyester kite line for $19.00 shipped!  8)

I soaked a piece in water for an hour then put it in the freezer. The line did not freeze up at all. I plan on replacing the black line that came on the 5 used Thompson traps I picked up recently. I fish over 30 feet of water most of the time and I cannot see which way the line is in the hole when a fish runs with black line. Black-on-black, I can't see Jack!  >:(

They still have tons of it left here.

woodstock (black) with a 20 fireline leader
when chuck norris played golf for money, chuck marked down a hole in zero every time, the golf pro said, "chuck: you can't score zero on a hole." Chuck norris turned towards the man and said, "I'm chuck norris, the man proceeded to pour gas over his body and set himself on fire because that would be less painful than getting roundhouse kicked by chuck norris....chuck norris roundhouse kicked him in the face anyways
