PSST, DON'T TELL THE LAKERS ITS A BASS LURE !!
« on: Jul 14, 2010, 09:16 AM »
I started using the 4" white Berkley Bass Power tubes for Lakers last year and WOW, boy the Lakers really slam em. Infisherman did a show using these tubes for Lake Trout in Canada last year and they weren't kidding they really get the Lakers here in N.H. wound up.I use the red Gamagatzu keel weighted wide gap hooks. These hooks punch right thru the tough cartilage of the lakers mouth and they don't pull out or straighten out like some of the jig hooks I've used in the past. I use short 1" bunny hops when I jig these tubes on bottom and I've watched the Lakers come flying in and smash them on the fish cam. I don't know exactly why the Lakers seem to hate these tubes, but they really smash em.  :o  ;D

They do work good, I've been using them for a couple seasons now.

Nice Laker.

What colors seem to work for you?

White with metal-flake works very well around here.

Thanks,

Wiener

Hey Wiener, I had a heck of a time just getting the local shops to find the Berkley Powertubes and they could only find 4" plain white. I need to get different colors and sizes to try. I see a roadtrip coming, I'll head up to Cabelas in Scarborough ME. The way they glide in and smash the tubes seems to be because they haven't seen these before. Everyone I've talked to around here still swears by the jigs and pimples. I have put the tube on one rod and a jig or pimple on the other 2' apart and every time they go after the tubes. Last year, I had a 5 Laker fish fight. I kept yanking it away from them and they started chasing each other and biting and ramming each other to get this tube :o They even knocked the camera over. Frikken Vicious Sonsofishes they were !! I just didn't have the heart to tell them it is a frikken bass lure !! :roflmao: :icefish:
