Had a gentleman stop in to the bait shop a few days ago and wants me to clean out his pond of all the bait fish. I tell him sure, let me come down and look at it to see what I can do. I get there and he has his pond drained 1/2 way down and will be completely empty by Friday. He says, "there's thousands of bait here look" and he throws in a hand full of grain and the water BOILS!!!!
He tells me they are anywhere from babies to so big you could use a hook and worm to catch them. Ooooooooh, BIG BAIT!!!!! I tell myself this can't be true!!!!!! He tells me either I catch them or he's throwing them over the bank into the bushes. He's doing this because he had a few trout die this spring and now he feels the bait fish are using up all of the oxygen and he wants to take the bottom of the pond down another 20 feet.
Needless to say I now have my bait nets in the back of the truck and hopefully a new supply of bait of all sizes for the shop. Only if it was hard water season!!!!!!!!!!
Ice Chip.
