give us the bad news
« on: Feb 26, 2010, 05:19 PM »
This is to all are fellow ice fisherman up north jersey. Ok let us have, it I'm sitting down, give us the bad news how bad did you get hammered by this last storm? ??? Snow just makes it miserable to get around on the ice. Aside from that what was some of the worst things to happen to you while ice fishing?

Few years ago I fell through and lived to talk about it.   :o  Tryed pushing the limits on how much ice a 280 lb guy can stand on.  4 1/2" worked for a while until the high sun melted it down to 3".  Then I fell in.  Luckily the only thing I lost was a yak track cleat off my boot.  Long cold walk back to the truck.

17 in Hamburg NJ. Light and fluffy. Bring your snow shoes and travel light. That is is you travel at all.

24" in Hampton but the snow has already turned to slush on the lakes around here.  I went to Swartswood thinking I be wading through snow with slush underneath but it was just really soft, super wet slush.

It was sloppy out there today. Rubber boots were a must. My buddy had his regular snow boots on and lasted 20 minutes before he made a trip to Walmart for rubber boots and dry socks.

 Greetings all
Cranberry lake on sunday was the same way as was Musconetcong water under the snow!
But trying to walk on that stuff is very hard and you better have tall rubber insulated boots!
The ice was okay but hard walking and setting up to fish!
Very strenous ordeal just to fish! and getiing over the snow banks or drifts you encounter!!

Checked the shoreline on Big Swartswood and could find some spots to get on but man that ice is a mess.  Looks like I'll be in waders again this week though I'll be wearing a life jacket when I go out, at least until I've checked out the area I'm fishing.  The good news is if the ice is still decent I've already cleared Sunday with the wife..."You know this is probably the last week I'll be able to ice fish."  Not that she buys this but at least she understand my obsession.

Thats hysterical...i did the same thing. Been out every weekend but one and probably 20-25 times total and i put the sad face on saying i have to go this weekend since it will be my last time with stuff going on in the upcoming weeks. She bought it but with a frown ;D

At least my wife cares, she drove past the lake today to make sure that I was still on top of the ice.  She didn't make sure it was me but she figured that if it wasn't me alone the other guy would have at least triedto pull me out.

Joe, I've got to be somewhere early evening but if the fishing's slow on the south end I'll head out early and swing by.  As of this afternoon the ice was still 8" and the slush was less than 2" and still frozen.  I live on Kemah and won't fish it becasue the slush/snow is about 12" and the ice less than 6".  That's just way to hard to navigate to make it worth it.

Too bad the fishing wasn't better Joe.  It figures, when the weather is great the fishing usually isn't and vice versa.  I'm glad I stopped by and I'll keep my eyes open for you, look for me I have a green Smoker Craft.

Well if you didn't already guess it the ice fishing season in N.J looks to be over. It was way to short, wished it lasted a weeeee bit longer. Drove down rt 206 today and all the lakes that were being fished 1 to 2 weeks ago were pretty much melted. Cranberry lake still had ice but good distance from shore. Hope all had a good, safe season. Stay safe over soft water season,God willing look forward to talking to you all next season.       WAC
