Merritt
« on: Mar 04, 2010, 04:18 PM »
Heading up to Merritt this weekend. (3-6 + 3-7).  I heard the big lake is open, but I think there will still be plenty hardwater on the snake and by beeds.  Hopefully the fishing has picked up from last month. Going to fish both days hard and give the hardwater action one last good effort.  Sutherland is starting to go, so its time to hang up the ice gear and get ready for spring walleye.  I will post at the end of the weekend on how we did.

Called Fred's Bait and it sounds like they're catching a few way up on the snake. He said 2-3 guys are catching 30-40 nice crappie and perch a day. My son, a buddy, and I are also heading up on Saturday. We're taking the tip-ups and smelt just in case.

Good luck if you come up.  Warning.... weve had some really warm temps up here this week.  And last coupldays have had some wind.  I personally have not been out to the lake!  So since noone local has posted anything,  if you come up its time to think of being safe out there.

Fishing should be the exercise of your skills- and its rewards the places it brings you to

Fished Merritt sat and sun.  Caught 13 crappie, biggest was 13.5 in.  7 catties, biggest was 29 in.  And a master angler perch, 13.25 in.  The catties and perch we caught over at beeds the first day.  Second day we fished the snake and got into the crappie on some trees.  The ice was still about 18 inches thick, but getting pretty soft, and getting soft around the edges.  A lot of guys past us going up in the snake, and most of them returned around mid day, so either they limited out fast, or the fishing was poor, my guess is they limited out.  All in all pretty decent fishing, alot better than feb.  I dont know how much longer the ice will last.
