lowrance x67ice
« on: Feb 25, 2010, 12:48 AM »
Well I finally did it and ordered a fish finder for ice fishing.  I went with the Lowrance because of it being a flasher and a pixel screen combination unit which I can use all year long. I know other units can be used the same way but with my $$$ to spend this was the best buy for the money.  It should be here for next weekend.  So watch out fish.

You might be skeptical it was worth it the first 10-30 minutes you use it.  But I can speak for everyone else I bet, once you get that sucker figured out you'll be amazed you ever fished without one.

That was my first choice too --- but I was not patient enough to wait so I got a Humminbird ice 45 and have NO regrets

Keep the book handy to read up on its operation. during your first few outings with it.

Sure nice to be bouncing a jig on bottom in 80 FOW and be able to see a cruiser come into the cone at 25 FOW and reel the jig to his depth and get a hook up.

Like Don says " you'll never fish blind again"

If you are going to cry be quick about it. Then get back to fishing.

I vote no. Use the search option in electronics/gear. There are many, many, many discussions on this subject.
So many fish, so little time.

I have never felt so disabled ice fishing as when my vex stopped working.

I had a friend back in MN who drove all the way to Lake Mille Lacs, drove the shanty to his spot, got everything set, and realized he left his electronics back home. He just packed back up and went home

...which is exactly what I would have done too...that and leaving my little container of frozen perch eyes in the freezer.  ::)

I used a old eagle optima for ice fishing back in the 90's then moved out of ice land.  now that I am back I have been using it out here in Wyoming, but the problem is if it is much below zero it will stop working because it is too cold.    I will be finding a marcum or vex over the summer months for next years ice season, and possibly a camera.    I am sure with a camera I could get the wife out on the ice more cause she could see the fish.

Mine just came from Reeds a couple of days ago and while I have not fished with it yet (hopefully this weekend) but the initial set up seemed alot easier than I thought that it was going to be. Seems like a real nice setup and pretty solid unit. I ordered mine from Reeds as they were about 30 bucks cheaper than everyone else, had em instock (atleast last week) and had free shipping on it. Cost was 269 NIB.

I used mine today in 30ft. of water to find crappies suspended in 16-22 fow. without the finder I would have never been able to locate the fish. I've never been able to find let alone catch crappies and this week alone I've caught over 30 in the last two days, not bad considering I was fishing from 10am to 1pm. Your gonna love it its a great machine.

Thank you all, I have been pretty lucky at caching fish of all types except crappie and I hope to locate a few of them.

If you turn your head for just a few seconds and a fish goes by, you will probably miss it.

I have a showdown and it's awesome.  It's very easy to use and have not had a single problem with it.

Those Showdowns are used very extensively on the In-Fishermen Ice Fishing segments...whatever that means.

I ordered a X67c in December and it was backordered for months. So I cancelled. I will try  Reeds. I like the look of that Cabelas ice pack especially the transducer float system, but it does not seem to be available anymore.
I use an old eagle now and it works good, it is just falling apart and it sucks down 6 volt batteries. Also the transducer is mounted on a metal rod and is a boat type skimmer, so it is somewhat difficult to use. You have to get it dead level in the hole.  I had a showdown in my hand but decided against it because of the lack of scrolling history it shows on the screen. Like the previous post mentioned, if you look away you could miss something. I also like all the other features in a fish finder, like all the zooming options, sensitivity levels etc.

I've got a showdown and works as advertised.  The battery lasts for an easy 24 hours and the unit is very sensitive.   I love it.  Oh and the price is right.  Good luck finding one.

Howdy, had a x67 for several years now, also use it on the boat, love it, easy to read screen even on a bright sunny day, gotta say its a good choice. Little brother and I have been using fishfinders for 15 years or so on the ice, couldn't live without one now. Kinda like going from sticks to tip ups, whole new world.
Many men go fishing all their lives without knowing that it is not fish that they are after.
