Depends on how deep the water is for me. If I'm in less than 5 FOW I have on about a 2 ft leader anything deeper I'll run a 3-4 ft'er, water clarity will make me change lengths sometimes, clear water = longer, if it's stained water sometimes I will not even tie a piece of mono or fluoro leader on

Gambell, when you tie your leaders, are you using the a board with nails in it to wrap everything around to assist in the process?

I tie a small loop at the end of my running line, and a small loop at the end of the leader .This loop to loop connection makes it easy to switch rigs, since I run my tip ups for pike, perch and walleyes. Easier to tie than other knots too. I haven't really noticed a decline in hits either.

20 inches of 80# Mono. I usually fish shallow so I dont want the Mono wrapped around the spool.

Not to hijack this thread. But instead of making a new one I felt that I would be nice to interject and add an additional item to the conversation.

I've been using red cajun mono (obviously red) as well as p-line floro (clear).

Anyone with experience with red leaders?
