My buddy just built 1 for his wheeler.  He took a 6" long piece of pvc bolted it to a piece of box tubing to rise it off the rack and set the auger level.  Now he just slides the auger into the pvc and bungee cords the handle to the rack and it stays put and secure.  I will try to snap some pics for you.

I had great luck with the Mad Dog auger mount bolted on the back rack of my quad, maybe building something similar yourself would save some cash and work just as well.

What kind of quad do you have? I made one that works for my bow and my auger, I think I have 10-15 bucks invested in it. Took all of an hour to make too.

As long as the front rack is elevated a bit from the fenders, then it'll mount just fine. It clamps on to any tube style rack, including the square plastic Polaris ones. It's a 3 point mount, that relies on 4 bolts and a bottom plate on each "point" to sandwich the tube, if that helps.

I have gun rack mounted on my front rack extention.  Works great for my auger too.  Pretty cheap,  I think I paid around $25 for it at Scheels.

I like the mad dog. Good reliable holder. I have tried a few others only to have them break.

This is what I came up with last season, cheap to make with scrap and hardware items, cover with tubing, and a lock to help keep people honest.  If you have a welder, better yet. Auger sits in tight and does not rattle around.

I have 3 quads and they all have the auger mounts that cabelas sells for I think like 40 bucks. I love them due to all you need to do is unscrew the big fork and everthing else can stay on the racks due to their low profile. This makes it easy for installing the racks I used for hunting season.

I have a Polaris Sportsman X2 and I didn't want to drill holes in the storage cover/front rack so I came up with this design (and oh yeah, tried to keep it simple).  I started with just tie downs but the auger would slide around a little so decided to go with the wood for both protection and stability.  The holes are drilled with forstner bits but a hole saw would probably work too.  The black rubber trucker tie downs seem to be stronger and more secure than the woven type bungies.  Overall, it's very secure and stable but I still put the auger in the truck when I trailer to the lake.

I had some 1/2 " plywood left over from a project and built this box for my wheeler. I  lined it with padded house wrap and I have room for skimmers, cutting board, chisel and all the little stuff I seem to need out there. ;D
