Making provisions for openings in shack floor for jig holes.  With shack on blocks my floor will be anywhere from 12"-20" from the ice.  While jigging, what is the best way to keep wind from blowing up the opening.  Have read about 5 gal pails with bottom cut out as sleeves, but they may be too short.  What else works?  I suppose I can make an extension on one with a second one.

Also, how hard is it to drill the holes from in the shack each time.  How oversized does the hole have to be?  I am assuming 11"-12" is OK since that is the size of a goop bucket.  I have an 8" hand auger, but usually borrow a 10" Jiffy later in the year.

My shack is only 4X8 so I will have to anchor it or else I could simply push it aside, drill the holes, then push it back, but on blocks I can't really do that.

Never had a shanty before, so will prob. learn a lot of things the hard way, but at least this site has given me some heads up on a lot of things.

   Thanks for the help.

Just bank it with snow. Helps keep you warm and the holes from freezing. The olny problem is skimming the holes after they are first cut, that takes a little work but thats it.
