That map website sucks eh? I've tried many times to give it a chance. I've said "theres got to be something here I'm missing". I've tried and tried but still - I've found it impossible to use and that it offers no benefit besides that it marks where the boat ramps and DEM sites are. I think whoever constructed it had a working knowledge of some 20 year old programming method and thought they were doing someone a favor by producing it. I'm glad I'm not the only person who views it as a waste.
Anyways, if you can find your book then stick with that. If not ask people to post them for you. If you've read the excerpts of the book (I'm a fishing nerd so I have) you'll realize that these maps were assembled from the 40's-70's. So not only is the book itself forty years old, but some of the maps are seventy years old. (At least in my book - not sure if they replaced any in the book you guys scored.. its RI though, so I doubt it.) Water levels change, but in my opinion, the bottom is fairly constant. Once you walk out 15 yards or so and measure your depth - thats a benchmark of whatever the whatever has changed since the map was made. If the map says 5 and the water is 8 then add 3 to everything. This will compensate for the changes in the last however many years. On the contrary if you think about a place like Watermans you will have to take away from your measurement because of the dam being closed.
Sorry for the novel but I hope that helps.
