I don't mind the noise (i don't fish for trout though) and I find many times wheelers or an auger running helps the fishing, for pike and perch and bass anyway. I fished a conn setback saturday and when I got there, there was a guy with two trap lines right through the middle. I had to set some near him just to fish, though we found out later he was fishing for perch and we were fishing for pike, so it didn't matter at all. We were ok with the situation because of the size of the place. I don't own a permenant bobhouse and many times, those are placed on prime spots by people who think they own that water. I don't like being told to move when I got there first on a midweek day cause I'm in their bobhouse spot. If i'm really worried about my fishing spot, I get there first. Then I'm not disappointing. I also find when people come close and we are catching fish, they usually don't. This is always extremely amusing

A buddy of mine brings a high powered pellet gun out on the ice with him. Keeps it in his shanty. If people set up too close to his spread he'll shoot their tipups to get the flag to pop, then he sits back and laughs his @ss off as they chase false flags. ;D

You said a "high powered air rifle".  The high powered ones go over 1000 fps.  I know, I have one.  It will go a 1/2 an inch into a good block of pine.  How can it not go thru the thin plastic flag, or destroy a tip up if it conects with the wood or metal?  I would hate to be the guy I caught shooting at my tip ups.  But I never said that doesn't sound like fun!  ;)

If someone, like a ice fishermen, or women, is in your favorite spot, or next to your Shanty, that you have out, then, just remember the lake is free for all.  Just because you put out a shanty, doesn't mean, if someone, gets to the ice, before you, that you have the right of way.  You just need to get up a little earlier, to get to your spot, your hole in the wall spot. ;D  Also, respect, the distance of ones tipups.  Place then at a distance, so they don't get tangled, when a fish is on.  Its the same thing, when fishing a river, in the spring.  Give people distance and respect.  It goes a long way, and makes everyone happy.  Just my way of enjoying the great outdoors, and maybe landing a lifetime fish. 8)

Bud, if someone run's over your traps, then maybe, they weren't high enough off the ice, or they, the people who ran over then, couldn't see then, as they weren't high enough, or they were just off the fishing access, and in the wrong place in, the first place!  I don't think there is any insurance co, that will insure your Tip-ups, from being run over?  Go to the hardware store and get that tape, that lights up, or paint all your Tip-ups, with that light up paint.  Sorry, thats about all I can tell you.   ;)

I always put markers next to my polars. Helps others see um. and helps me when checking for flags from the shanty. I don't get too upset when someone fishes the same area as me as long as there's about 20 paces between our tip ups. I usually keep 20 paces between my own 8 tipups, so anything inside that I consider rude. I also start my tip ups 75 yards from my permenent shanty so I take up alot of lake. I can't expect to call it my own.   And even though I put out markers, people still drive thru them instead of around.  As for the air rifle, those tip ups have got to be real close to hit the flags with a BB. Impressive marksmanship.

If someone is sitting on a park bench do you sit on the other side of the bench or snuggle right close to the random stranger. If two people are already sitting on the park bench do you squeeze your behind inbetween or sit on the next park bench down. Nobody owns a park bench but that doesn't mean you should be looking to sit in folks laps.

One day I hiked about a mile from the truck to fish, not a soul around figured shouldn't be bothered here. Started catching perch looked way down the lake here comes a wheeler getting closer and closer, three guy's go right  around me and stop, now I'm right in the middle of the lake plenty of room but they had to set up 20 yds. from me .So i hollered over and asked if they wanted to use my holes, didn't get any response they just looked away. I would never do that to someone else. And for the people that watch you catching fish, If I'm getting alot of bites I'll walk along my tip-ups and put the arms back up leave the line in the water and make it look like I'm skimming and checking the bait. I like the guys jigging if they see you catching fish they come a running I'd be hammering them with tip-ups and they wouldn't catch nothing they get piss off and leave YA!!! ;D

I Hate it when my shanty is in place and  i am fishing with all my jacks in place and someone walks out and starts putting tip ups 5 feet from mine, AND, there is basicaly no one else fishing the area, cmon there is plenty of room on the lake!!!!p.s, I love it when that person FINALY moves their shanty :)

I have been reading this forum for quite some time and finally decided to log on so I could join in on all the fun. So if you see me posting multiple comments, just realize that I may be a bit over zealous and excited to get in on all the action!!! Take it easy on the rookie..

i was fishing one time with my 5 year old. we didn't have a shanty so we set up about 75 yards from a boat launch so we could sit in a vehicle to stay warm. about 2 hours after day light a young man came down to the lake and set up some tip-ups out in some deeper water out past mine. he then walked off and came back about 10 minutes later with a 4-wheeler draging a massive shanty. he parked it dead in between us in our vehicle and our tip-ups so that we couldn't see even 1 of them. what an @%#$^&*!

Maybe he didn't realize you were on shore. Sunday there were tip ups set by my shanty when I got out at 10. I thought the owner of them was in the portable north of me. Turned out he was in his truck on shore.

Still reckless behavior on ice and that gun will end up one day where he dun want it, but darn sure deserves it.... ;)
Pellet guns may not be a "firearm" but that deosn't excuse the idiot behind the sites! Hit my equipment and a thundering "boom" will occur. That'll make me an idiot.....but only ONCE! Suggest you could show some ethics...may be young ones around. Obviously some one showed this fella how to be an idiot lets not pass THAT on. Thanks for reminding me of some "X" fishing/hunting associates. IDIOTS.
If the women don't find ya handsome, they should at least find ya handy !  Fish on, gotta go ..........!!!
