Ice Auger Sharpening Services/Exchanges
« on: Feb 05, 2010, 05:00 PM »
I have an eskimo 6" with curved blades, I've got two dull sets. Some people have told me that the blades have are the same shape and angle of a Strikemaster Lazer... I live in central New York and the local sharpening services don't have the special tool needed to sharpen these blades. They won't even attempt to sharpen them. I know that Fish 307 has an exchange/sharpening service, I used them a few years ago and was pleased. Does anybody know of other places possible in the central new york region. I would like a quick turn around if possible. Thanks in advance for any advise.

I'm a bit new to ice fishing and am careful to keep the blades covered when not in use. I takle it sharpening the blades is not as simple as using a hone and maybe a file? Is a single nick on the balde a dealbreaker?

What is a fair price for sharpening versus a new set of blades?

I have an old Eskimo hand auger 8", and lazer blades fit it great. It has the folding handle.
307 does a good job and is as quick as anyone with turn around.
Laserdude, sharpening is done best with a jig to hold the blade at the right angle. If you change the pitch even a degree it won't cut for beans.
New blades run 15.00 and up from what I've seen, and sharpening or trading for sharpened ones is around 10 plus shipping.
