So went to Seymore this weekend to fish for burbot for the first time. After getting bait and not really knowing where to set up we ended up in about 35-40 FOW. Had one flag right off, but lost the fish near the hole. Didn't have another flag till the end of the night when picking up walked up to one of our tip ups and saw that the reel was empty. Ended up pulling in a 21" lake trout, ended up tangling one of our other lines that was another 30 yards away. We checked the tip ups frequently, and was really surprised when walking up on it.
Bunch of kids were parked at a blue shanty to the right of the access drove on the ice, maybe 6" of good ice and were driving around in circles using the headlights to spot their tip ups. Seemed that they had quite a few flags but not landing anything. Seemed that they were more interested in partying rather then fishing.
Next morning went back out to try for some salmon, with less people fishing this morning, we were able to bring it in a little closer to the shore and set up  in another place for salmon. When we got to the lake Sunday morning, was not surprised to see that the kids had stayed through the night in their shantys and had left their tip ups out overnight. Isn't that illegal? Immediately noticed that 2 of their tip ups were tripped. After setting up our spread and waiting for an hour to see someone stir over at the blue shanty, I went over to the shanty knocked on the door and let the kids know that they had 2 flags. The young kid answered and his eyes looked like two piss holes in a snow bank. Took them 20 min to get out to check them and basically didn't do much besides reset the flag.
Another thing is that i can see why not much is caught there because the constant people driving around with four wheelers and snowmobiles for no reason. There was snowmobiles driving around through the grounds, through all the tip ups. I just don't see why they have to tool around the fishing grounds when there are plenty of other places to ride including the vast trails. Why make all that noise and disturb the fishing. Makes no sense to me.
What confuses me even more is why did the group of 2 guys park their truck and the beach parking lot just to take four wheelers across rt. 111 to a red shanty that was 20 yards off the beach. Is that really necessary? Once again these guys set up their tip ups, got on their wheelers went flying across the ice through our spread and went to another shanty group at the point. Aren't you suppose to be in control of your lines at all times?

I know the guys with the red shanty that park in the parking lot across 111. Good bunch of people, i'm sure there was someone in the shanty when they went out to the point to watch the lines. Thats the way it is in "shanty town" love it or hate it...F&G doesn't need to spend more time there no laws have been broken. Trout Slayer is right the Warden lives just a couple of miles up the Valley Rd. I'm sure he would be there checking things out if any illegal activity was happening. HD  ;)

Hey Trout Slayer I don't think I know you but I might have seen you on Seymour. I own a deer camp around the corner from JP and his brother. Good guys, someone you'd want on your side when crap goes down, always been there for me. HD
