Skimmer Transducer through ice
« on: Feb 04, 2010, 09:22 AM »
I am looking for some input on using a skimmer transducer on ice.  I have read numerous posts about people rigging up their skimmers to work effectively as ice ducers.  I was wondering about the orientation of the skimmer in the water.  The basic shape seems to be rather common.  Kind of like a football with one end cut off.  When using the skimmer in the ice hole, do you place it in the hole with the same orientation that you would use if it were mounted to a boat?  Most people who post about converting for ice say "PVC to keep it level", and that's about all I get from their posts.  At first I was under the assumption that the "cut off end" had to be pointing vertically down into the hole, but now my assumption is that the surface opposite the cord must be facing down vertically into the hole.  Any suggestions or comments appreciated.

the bottom of the ducer lays flat , just like it would be on the boat .
