Below is one I caught at Antero this weekend.  Biggest trout I've ever caught.....  24" and 7lbs!

Cool, nice fish and congrats on the PB!  Must have been a great day on the big A.  My friend caught a couple almost that big Saturday and his 11 year old son caught a 26" brown, his biggest ever.  I see what he meant about the melting slush though, I gotta get back there soon!

Would love to Todd, but don't know yet.  We're hitting Harvey Gap Saturday for pike and perch, my buddies like them better than trout. And I'm in a tourney for lake trout, gotta hit Blue Mesa a time or two for them. But Josh (friend from Montrose) and I each caught three bows at Antero between 3 to 5# after I left you, Cher's elk steak was good and good luck!!  I'll PM you if I get to come over.

It was a good day for all. A ton of people! There was a line of cars in front of us on the highway 15 deep and all but one turned into Antero. Lots of fishing pressure.03.jpg[/IMG]

I grew up fishing Antero but live in Montana now.  I saw the Antero thread and thought I'd take a look.  I remember as a kid being the crazy people out ice fishing.  Hardly anyone fished it back then, about 20 years ago.  It seemed more often then not when I was really little we were the only ones out there most of the time.  We stroked them up there though.  Piggies too.  I know just before I moved the ice fishing really picked up there and a lot of guys started coming out.  Glad to see its still producing.  We used to catch the occasional salmon out of there but I don't think they are in there any more.  Anybody ever catch them?  Not that it really matters but we used to fish right up against the dam.  Like one foot on the rocks and one on the ice.  One of the biggest ones we ever got out of there we caught like that.  Anyway just reading this thread brought back a lot of great memories.  Whats the word on Tarryall.  Is it still fishable?  I had heard it was drained awhile back.
Tight lines guys

Denver Water decided to make Antero the destination place a few years ago.  They drained it to fix and raise the dam, and kill the suckers and any pike, then restocked it heavily with 4 species of trout.  It was closed for a couple years.  Then it opened again two years ago and people were going up and catching bunches of 5 pounders with some to 10.  It winterkilled that winter pretty bad and that killed most of the better fish, but they stocked it heavy again and it is back.  If it doesn't winterkill, next year will see a repeat of 07.  Scores of people now as you have seen.  Tarryall is good still for lots of stocker sized trout.
