Great ice.
« on: Jan 16, 2010, 01:34 PM »
At Stuart ice was real poor on Tuesday. Water everywhere with some small open holes.

Now it froze up real good above and below since it was -6 last night. Going to get cold again tonight.

These pictures are from out my top floor window. Hope everyone else has good ice to.

Lakers here move around alot and its a big lake. Laker fishing is slow and usually is. I think they get hit alot when the rainbow derby is on in summer. I always see a bunch floating following the derby.

Yes TGF rolf and the boys were off for awhile when the water was on the ice but it hair straight back and giver now.

what lake are ppl referring to when they mention big burbs, rainbows and lakers up on the leo. I fished kloch on sunday. Just saw a laker of about 5-7lbs swim through the hole. other than that it was a very quiet day on the ice. is stuart lake any good near the boat launch at governors wharf? i see a couple of ppl out there once in awhile

Welcome aboard AOF.
Elliot lake can be good for them ;) Bit of a trek to get in there but can be worth it. I have heard its poor by the wharf. One year someone put a shack right out there but unsure how they did :-\
Icechip and his clan live closer to Tachie up the lake. I think they put FSJ in their avatar so people at least know that better.

yeah i figured icechip lived in that general direction. looks like he lives just before the leo turnoff. i know there are a bunch of cabins that way. yeah i am a fisheries biologist up here and havent really had the opportunity to check out alot of these lakes in the area. i would much rather fly fish some streams or rivers... heck i am still trying to find a few around here as well. been out on a couple of lakes since i bought a 4 man ice shack, so i kinda like the idea of clear water. at least if the fish arent biting you can keep yourself occupied looking down the hole. is kloch any good? i was out by the island.

There is a spot where Takatoot creek comes into Kloch then drops sharply. I always wanted to icefish it but never did....only in summer and I marked it on my GPS to return on ice. One day ;)
Yes thats where Icechips clan lives.

yeah after i finished looking at the bathymetry map for the lake, thats exactly where i wanted to head. but i figured it would be a pretty long walk. it was about 1km to the island and about another 1 or 1.5km to the creek mouth. i was kinda surprised not to see any rainbow around the island though. the bottom was primarily mud flats. walking on the lake was brutal though. there was almost 12 inches of slush or water on the ice
