Day 1
Ice conditions were not great if you didn't stay on the snowmobile tracks or beaten path as there was 2" of water and 6" of snow, however there was 8"-10" of hard black ice. Didn't get on the ice until 1:30 PM and fished until 6:00 PM. Only got one fish on the ice, it was very slow and hardly seen any fish on the finder
.
DAY 2
On the 2nd day, fishing had picked up some. Went to a different spot and got 11 fish on the ice with also quite a few bites. Here is some of the catch.
The next fish that Cheryl caught seemed to take a little longer than usual, I had a little time to take a picture of the fight.
This is what came up out of the hole
.
I had got into a big fish myself and got the head up through the hole after a 10 minute fight. The fish didn't want any part of that and put on it's water brakes, chucked it in reverse and back down the hole and that's when the hook came out of it's mouth(straighten out hook)
This is what I know about the fish.... it was 7" wide, 3 1/2" across the back and at least 30" long. I estimate the fish to be in the neighborhood of 10lbs. It would have been my biggest rainbow!
DAY 3
We went to that same spot and the fishing had slowed down alot again. We got 4 on the ice. The biggest one that I caught , I noticed my reel wasn't working properly and I looked to see what was going on. I had found that my line was wrapped up inside my reel, with this fish still on I remove the spool and unwrapped a whole bunch of line that was in there, put it all back together and finished bringing it in
.
Next trip is for lakers!
See you on the ice!
