trapping minnows through the ice
« on: Dec 14, 2009, 03:51 PM »
I have been trying to catch minnows the past two weeks in the torrington area with no luck at all. I would really like to catch my own bait for all of the obvious reasons.

I have never tried through the ice but I have heard other doing it well. I am wondering in what water depths to leave a trap in a pond like burr pond or dog pond where to my understanding there are goldies.

If anyone can help out I would really appreciate it.

Thanks

Tim

Try small little ponds. Might have to wait until they are locked up solide to do it, but I have always done alot better out of small little puddles and ponds than I have in lakes and steams.   If you set thru the ice, try and focus on outside weed lines.  good luck.
Ain't nothing to it but to do it!!

Just remember that if your going to set the trap over night you will need to cut a hole in the morning to get to the trap!  Maybe use chain (like a dog chain) for the line that will actually be embedded in the ice that way if you need to get rough with it it wont break or cut as easinly as a rope.
