Fishing laws

A question for everybody out there. I had an understanding that there was to be no bonfires on the ice as per the law and the reasoning for this is because when the ice melts in the spring the ash from the fires fall to the bottom and ruins the spawning areas. When I was fishing Eena Lake though I counted 3 fires on the ice.
Did this law change or was this a law ever?
Another thing is, a saw this guy fishing and I went over to see how he was doing. He said it was very slow. I also noticed that there was another pole about 20 feet from him with the line in the water and a pack beside the pole so I figured his buddy went to the bush washroom and never thought anything of it even though you're not allow to be so many feet from your pole with your line still in the water. I walked about 75 yards past him and drilled a hole to set up then I noticed he got up, reel his pole in and went to the other pole and pulled it in. He moved to the middle of the lake then drilled 2 more holes and did this same thing agian. Talk about breaking the law!

Of course you then pulled out your trusty cell phone and made the call right.
Remember poachers and law breakers will never learn if they are never caught and made to pay the consequences. 8)
Bet he had over his limit too.

We have a 2 pole limit here in Wyoming and some waters allow 6 lines while ice fishing. Are you guys limited to 1 pole everywhere? I often catch fish on my hanging bait on a 2nd rod 20' away. We have to be within 100' of our rods.

Hey Bill its BS but it happens. It is not just Eena but other lakes as well. The DFO is so under staffed that the chances of these guys getting caught are slim. They do however have a program for reporting these violations. If you want to take the time and effort. In my fishing experience I have almost come to blows with ignorant people who take more than their fair share or over the size limit retention quota. It is sad because the regulations are put in place so that are future fishing experience will be shared by all. My favorite saying is limit your catch dont catch your limit. Hopefully these people will relize the outcome of their POACHING and what it will do to the future of fishing for our kids and their kids. Well for those of us that adhere to the rules and regulations have a great season. To those who dont may your line be snaged and may the big one break off.

As is my usual opinion about topics like this, people would often follow the rules a lot closer if there wasn't so much evidence of stupidity within the rules themselves....such as losing sleep over some guy with 2 lines out at Eena but then happily fishing with 2 lines out if you're in a boat by yourself...that makes sense.....or not allowing fish for bait while jigging for burbot but then saying its A-OK for set-lining....hhhmmm. My only rule that I follow about any of this is.....go ahead and report everything you don't agree with but you better know in your heart that you're sqeaky clean yourself or karma will come around and bite you in the ass....perhaps even when you don't know you're breaking the law as mentionned before.
