We went out from Jentofts dock Saturday to 220' of water. The ice was extremely rough! I don't think we will see anybody driving from the lower K Bay out to the normal lake trout hot spots this winter. There are slabs of ice sticking up all over and they are stacked on top of each other under the ice as well. You could drill a hole through 8" of ice, hit water, and then hit another layer of ice after 6" of water. The fish were biting but not real agressive.

seen quite a few but didn't catch anything. They kinda  just circled it a bit and went away. Had a 10-15 pounder swim by us but didn't look twice. Cool sight.

Anyone been doing any good? I went this morning and didn't see a single fish out from the light house. Then I went deeper and gave bobbing a try for the first time, didn't catch any though. I was in a little more than 160 ft. I wasn't really sure if that was deep enough.

A lot of people go in 220+ for lake trout. I hardly hear of people trying in less than 180 ft.

we fish less than 180 frequently when we bob, but the the bite is kinda sporadic. better quality of fish though

Do you guys look for structure, or just fish a depth for a while and move you don't get any.

Hows the fishing been? Any steelhead, salmon, or herring biting? I was hoping to get down there later this week.

Has anyone here been out from the end of the Whirl-I-Gig road lately? Is the ice smooth out from there or is is just as rough as it is going out from Jentoft's dock?

we were out there saturday and sunday. there is a combination of broken and smooth. looked better then jentofs. straight out there was about 7-8 inches
sunday we fished about a 1/4 -1/2 mile further north there was 5-6 inches but when we left at 430 there was a long wet area looking like the start of a pressure crack.

No we don't really look for structure, if we hit it GREAT! but it's not our plan we just hop around after about a hour or so without a hit.

Headed up from St Johns area this evening and stopping @ Jays on the way up. We are fishing Friday through Monday.  What colors are working and on what kind of Lure/Jig combos?  We are targeting Whitefish and Salmon Species (All). We are also planning on venturing out on inland lakes in the Baraga  area.  Any advise from our fellow Hard Water Fanatics is greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance for your advise and good luck to all this weekend!!!
