I'm still in denial.  :)

Headed for Houghton in MI again this weekend.  My wife is going up this time, and I'll have the GPS with the lake map and some good advice/tips from some locals that I met last weekend.

My heart goes out to ya. Here in da U.P. we still have bout 30" of ice on the bay in most places and that or more on inland lakes. folks still driving full size trucks all over. It's 9 degrees out right now. Guessn' I'll be on the ice untill early april. DANG  ;)
It's more important to be nice, than it is nice to be important.

I have fished that lake for the past  two weekends.  Caught my limit of a mixed bag of 5.  3 eyes and 2 gators.  I lost more than I want to share with you.  Find sharp break from 5" to 12 and you will have all you can handle.  I have best luck with jigging raps tipped with full minnow.  Going up next weekend.  Good luck  ;D

Thanks for the tip!

Jeff

I fish the very east end of the lake.  Right by the marina.  again the key is the sharp drop off.  There is a very large white house with a ton of windows on the south side.  It is next to a vacant lot.  Find the 5' foot break.  It will drop to 12 foot in less than 5 foot from each hole.  Anywhere along there.  Took me a weekend to fine them.  What is interesting is the lake for the most part is farly clear but this bay is slightly stained.  Almost a amber color.  There is a feeder creek right there in the bay.  Let me know how you make out.  if you have a chance go over to Higgins in the evening and look at the mobs of people chasing smelt.  I spent an evening just visiting fisherman who love there smelt.  Several hundred.  They are quite a group.  Phil

Thanks again for the tips.  Last weekend was my first time up there and I fished the south end, not knowing what I was doing.  My wife and I will be up tomorrow evening and staying at Lee's South Shore Beach Resort, right beside Lyman's.  According to my Navionics Hotmaps there should be some areas similar to what you describe on the west side of the lake, and we are going to head that way first thing Saturday morning.  We will be in a FishTrap Yukon.  If we don't have any luck on Saturday, we may head around to the east side.  What is the name of the Marina that you mentioned?  I don't see one on the east side of the lake.  ??

Thanks,
Jeff
