West Okoboji
« on: Feb 10, 2009, 02:38 PM »
Which bay would you consider the best overall bay on West?
Also which bay would you go to for each species if you had to catch fish?
Perch, Walleye, Pike, Panfish???

Emerson?
Smiths?
Millers?
North?
Browns?
Haywrads?
Echo?

Thanks!!! Anything helps!!!
See ya on the ice!!! Go Packers!!!

First 4 get the most attention, Haywards gets minimal attention. Anything can be had in all the bays just depends on where your at and when. Right now if I want to catch fish I got to Spirit.

Esox. I think your right, West does traditionally get the pressure because of the name and this year it is not been producing consistent fish! Spirit on the other hand has! so Spirit gets my vote!

I will drill your hole!!!

I think you really need to consider Spirit lake if you want to watch your bobber go down.  I would start there.  But, I if I filled some pails there..I might consider West for some Tip-up fishing or targeting some other species.  The fish are there...watched them all through winter games...they just have lock jaw.  Obviously, sun up and sunset would be good times to hit rocks anywhere you find them between large drops leading to a shallower shelf.  I was so dissappointed in West the 2 days I was there I have no confidence in it.  I love to ice fish with eternal optimism...that's the rig I run.  West can pay out some nice fish...it can also make you wonder if every fish there isn't suffering from stomach flu.

I tried Smiths on the 7th, we tried late hoping for walleyes or northern, I only set up tip ups but a couple of my group jigged and pulled out 3 11 inch perch..
