What would you use on a tip-up if you are not allowed to use smelt or icicles (aka NY )
since you said your serious I'll respond...but I'm still not sure if your serous Waxies. I've caught more bows this season on waxies. had great luck last year.Trout worms. They seem to be in short supply this year but I've had a few trout this season and many last year. Ice Flies For jigging of courseHellgramites. I,ve caught 2 or three this year.Fathead minnows. I prefer the icicles but fat heads have help us land a few browns this seasonstill don't believe your serious
just a few more tips, suggestion, set up in the dark(early morning) and get the heck away from those tip ups and be very quite. Trout are very weary and get spoked easily.
can i just add to this....while trout can be very weary and spook easily...i too have seen the same spooky trout in fact change into anything BUT spooky and attack anything that moves at completely different times of the day or week or month for that matter.just my two cents worth...i really do think it all depends on the day
Hey jflood...ever thought about using POWERBAIT?....LOL...WK
I've never caught a bow, brookie, or brown through the ice and smelt can't be sold and icicles can't be found in alot of area bait shops so I was curious as to what might make a good substitute. Thanks jflood.
might be a dumb question here, but i have read on IS a couple times about using shrimp. I assume that small cocktail shrimp would be perfect., but do they need to be raw or can they be boiled already?
Salmon eggs!!!cut a bunch of holes in 3-7 fow and drop an egg in each (no line or antything.) then, every few minutes check the holes to se if the egg is missing. when you find one that is missing, just put an egg on your jiggin rod and drop it in. most of the time the trout will hit it before it gets below the ice. this works better if you check the holes continuosly.
shrimp ring shrimp and bagged frozen shrimp will generally be tougher because they are not impregnated with water so they are not soggy. they have a much firmer texture and hold up better on hooks.
