i was planning on heading to fort peck the 1st of january. i know it is early and we went about then two years ago and the hell creek bay was the only part frozen over the main lake was still open. i just was wondering how early you guys have heard of the main lake frozen over. i know its all weather dependent. my fishing buddy is having surgery on his hip jan 8 so we are trying to beat the surgery date. last year we went in mid feb and had a blast we are not to sure we are going unless the main lake is frozen. I hope we get one heck of a cold snap here shortly.

I fished Peck over New Years of 07 and there was good ice (12") from the North Fork of Rock Creek and points to the South on the Big Dry Arm. A half mile or so North there was a large pressure ridge that spanned the Arm from East to West, and open water beyond that.
At the upper end, likely Fourchette Bay would be the first safe ice.

You can call the LakeRidge Motel and baitshop for current info. They are on the dam end of the Reservoir, but they are active in search and rescue for the entire Reservoir and usually have current info. They are good people too, with minnows and a good stock of gear.
I'd do some searching online as well. There are guides, etc up there with fishing and ice reports. And of course Hell Creek Marina has its own website, as does Rock Creek Lodge.

Hey all, I am new here, but not new to the hard water. My name is Sam Heinert, I live in Vaughn and besides the ice, I love to bow hunt, you help me figure out how i can make a big enough hole to bow fish through the ice and we can make any deal you want!! J/K
I called Deb last week and we have a trip planned for the 23rd - the 26th!! She said Hell Creek should be frozen good by the end of jan.
Good luck to you all and it would be great to meet anybody when I go over in Jan. Everytime i go to Peck it always seems like we always get along like we are living in some small town....good folk....!!!
Come on freeze!!

Oh absolutly, I`ve speared pike, the bow comment was tongue in cheek! The bow has been put away for the season.
I made a real nice spear a couple of years ago, plenty heavy and I drilled relief holes with my mill machine to allow water to go through the spear, i can get more feet out of it before it canters.

convieniently enough, almost all the lake webcams are down. pretty much the only time of year you'd want them to work, and they are down. I e-mailed the walleye unlimited web guy and he said they were aware of the problems, and working to get them fixed, most of the cams have been down for several months. guess they are government employees.

Guys I know in Jordan are saying Devils' Creek has fishable ice. However, I will warn you that these guys are usually on the ice after the first hard frost and follow it back to shore as it melts in the spring.
