i would not  trust the ice on olcott harbor if my life depended on it ! you have a warm water flow coming down that creek constantly from the burt dam , any ice on that harbor will be unsafe right now

stay out of the channel and you should be okay...check as you go..don't go if there is any kind of warming/thaw.  You could tie a rope to docks if unsure .  Dont go past the launches. Lots of fish above the damn, but I agree, wouldn't eat anything above the damn, and only a perch below

Whats up with the water above the dam that you wouldn't eat fish from there? Lake ontario is the worst of the worst and according to the biologists I work with it's only the fish with long lifespans or bottom feeders you have to worry about, panfish supposedly dont live long enough to build up toxins like the trout, walleye, and other large fish.

above the damn is the worst of the worst of the worst!  Two chemical plants on the creek back in the day.  as a local have heard stories of testing being done and the deep areas corroding equipement.  most of the truly nasty areas are behind the damns probably covered by sediment.  Eat'em if you want, but the reason lake ontario is so bad is because of creeks like this.  I think the advisery is to eat NO fish from this creek, though I will eat fish from the lake...in moderation, and only panfish.

Its great up there because most of the locals know to throw them back...but ist is very good fishing for sport.  I've heard of trout being caught there too...anything in the canal/river can make its way to there...i am waiting to catch a musky or a a tiger musky one of these days. ;D

it may have been a state record. words can not explain how big this LG mouth was.

;D best lure up top there has to be a shad rap size 7 in shad color

Caught quite a few big ones up there.  Last year I caught one while in my float tube and the thing pulled me all over before i got him in.  I do real well early in the season by the bridge area with big brown tube jigs thrown under the trees right up on the bank.  I caught a couple on shad raps and rattle traps, and spinner baits too.  Lots of pike and huge crappie there too.  Its always hard throwing those back.

went down to the harbor today..looks like someone was on the ice but it looked a little funky..big cracks then refroze.  As a person who has ice fished the harbor I don't think that I would go out yet.
