Lubricant for hub shelter hubs?
« on: Feb 03, 2019, 05:57 AM »
Help here guys.  I have a Polar Bird 3T and the steel end caps on my poles and sockets in the hubs themselves have gotten rusty.  Itís making the hubs harder to open and a lot of friction, squeaking, etc.  Whatís a good lubricant to use to nip this rust in the bud and also a method of delivery to get it where I need it to go?  Something that wonít make a mess or start to stink down the road?  What has worked well for you?

Thanks!

DN

Something like CRC white lithium grease. Another option would be Primis LubeGel (if it is still available). The gel is thick and sticks to where it is applied. Has the fishing picked up in your neighborhood?

I would use something like Kroil to break down the rust and get it moving them come back with a type of grease that would stay put and prevent it from rusting again. Kroil is my go to for everything. It is like PB blaster on steroids.

Hi Ed!  Thanks!  Will take a look at the CRC and the Primis.  Was out Friday and did ok on the panfish, but skunked so far this year on eyes.  Be back at it today.  Weíre de-silting all of the catch basins where feeder streams enter the lake and itís made for some really dirty water.  I think they finished up yesterday hopefully.

This stuff is amazing. https://www.berkebileoil.com/protection-first-class.html

It is lanolin based and will not harm your plastic hubs.  It is both a lubricant and a corrosion/rust inhibitor.

More info at this link.  I buy it in the aerosol can and a little, goes a long ways. https://www.berkebileoil.com/product-information.html
take care,

Break Free CLP.
I use the stuff on everything. CLP stands for clean, lubricate, protect. And in my experience it sure does all of these. A little goes a long way and using one of the little straws as an applicator should work fine. it doesn't seem to have too hard of time finding its way into the inner parts of mechanisms where you want it to go. Even if you don't use it on your hubs, it wouldnt hurt to have some around the house.
