I have been trying to figure this out for a long time......well at least in my head. How do you catch bass under the ice? Just curious

Bugler,

I too have pondered this and I met someone in the sporting goods section of WalMart that was heading to Echo lake to catch Bass through the ice.  This couple was using standard attractor and dropper rigs except they were using a little larger dropper or a 1/8oz lead head jig and small twister tail as the dropper.

They said they were killin' 'em!  I've never cared to much for Bass as far as eating, but they are a kick to catch.  Maybe I'll give it a try next year....

Depends on the location...some place they will look at nothing you offer, other places they eat anything. Very distinct bite, one big thump!

I have only caught one bass through the ice; a 16 inch silver-sided largemouth when I lived in Wyoming.  For some reason, bass are hard to catch through the ice. I would try a jig or a large night crawler.

I know there are crappie in Blanchard lake just southwest of Whitefish.  There are also some bass in there, but I don't think you can keep them....

Lake Blaine southwest of Kalispell also has bass in it...i've caught them using jigs (smallish and dark) as the water there is really clear. and fished slowly
