Flathead Ice - How thick?
« on: Feb 21, 2007, 08:52 PM »
Drove by Spencer on Sunday and noticed that some of the holes weren't re-freezing.  Could see it from the highway!  How's the ice?  All good and safe (got young 'ens with me and temps haven't been cooperating)?  Anyone been to Spencer, Skyles, Blanchard, Whitefish, Flathead, Smith, Ashley, Stillwater,.........

Foopus,

Ice on Spencer should still be good as with Beaver...they both had 16" of ice 2 weeks ago and it hasn't been that warm.  Probably have to watch the edges but the main body should be pretty darn good...

Also often the ice in the holes freezes clear with very little air so it appears black and as open water when you first look...

Went to Spencer on March 3, 2007 and the ice was around 24" thick.... :o

I usually measure with my clean out ladle(which is about 19-20") and It wasn't long enough...
