Flathead reservation question
« on: Dec 04, 2015, 07:42 PM »
Between ninepipes, kicking horse, or pablo what would you recommend going to, to catch perch?

Also have any of you ever tried lower crow reservoir?  Tried it this summer with no luck.

Pablo, hands down. I wouldn't eat a fish out of crow if you paid me. 10" is a good perch in Crow.

As always..m fish is spot on...crow has decent fish...but the drainage from the potato fields should raise flags...seeing the froth that enters the flathead from crow creek should be enough reason to not eat any fish in crow res...the water flowing into nine pipes and Pablo is pretty darn clean..not perfect...but compared to the sprays that start to happen in the fields out round butte..nite and day...lots of dinks....but occasionally some nice ones...

I've only fished Ninepipes, but it was a lot of fun....lots of catching but not much keeping. I want to try Pablo and Kicking Horse this year and see if there are some larger fish to be found.

It's a mixed bag of perch in Ninepipes.  Mostly dinks, but you can get enough good ones for a meal.  KickingHorse if pretty much nothing but dinky perch

Average size last year was probably 6"...maybe 1 in 6 was worth filleting.

Pablo is a great place to bring kids, a place for lots of action.  Not really the place to go if you want to catch a trophy fish.  Lots of little guys  Last year I seen a guy fishing 40 yard away from me on Ninepipes pull what looked like a football sized large mouth bass through the ice.  We (my three children and I) were busy catching perch.  it really is a flip of a coin for either one the weekend they open, lots of action.  Just like any other place you will find a few nice ones here and there on the ice.  We usually manage to bring home enough for me to be busy fileting for a while.

On average, bigger perch in Pablo and a chance if catching Mac or Lake whitefish.

Mike, I had no idea there were Mac's or Lake Whities in Pablo.  But I suppose, as it's fed by Flathead, right?

You are correct Matt. We caught them in nets when I did some volunteer work for Tribal Fisheries.

with the water level that pablo got to this summer i would doubt there would be trout or lake whitefish in there this year.

Pablo gets my vote...there is a lot of surface area to cover...and there is always a chance to find a spot that will increase your percentage of good sized keepers...it also provides great action for kids when numbers are more important than size.

Did you do this work recently?  Sounds fun!

Are there also Bass and Trout in Pablo
