Pike Spears
« on: Nov 12, 2014, 09:07 PM »
Since it is getting real close to that time I have been looking (mostly online) where a guy can get a good quality pike spear. If anyone has any suggestions feel free to reply. Thanks in advance.

Lots of good info in the "Darkhouse Spearing" section.  Several members make some really nice quality spears.  Message me if you need more info.

The one that K&E Tackle sells is a good one, and the one that is mentioned at being at Scheels is a nice one as well!

Look up darkhousegearandtackle .com They have some great spears. My brother and I both have one of the 9" spears. I also have one from darkhousespears too. Different sites. It's good too. I have the laser cut. Both great guys to deal with.

From experience, do not buy a spear with square stock or lazercut, you want rounded tines. The pike shake off easier with square corners. Just my $0.02.

I thought the one at Scheels I bought last year was not that great.

There's a nice one on ebay.  Should be around $150 for a good one.  DO NOT buy the laser cuts.  Worthless and will plane out bad -if you do manage to hit one -you will damned near cut it in half before it comes off under the ice.  Here is the link:

Looks like the Minnesota Amish made?  Not a Dillo spear, but looks nicely weighted.

Trust me -I have speared northern for 30+ years and have thrown a lot of different spears.  Spend the money.
I used to make them myself -I don't have access to my metal fab. equipment now that I'm in MT.  I may try it again someday. Used to make decoys as well ahh. . .the good days before children.

I built one once and it works ok but it doesn't look to pretty as I didn't have a plasma cutter.

Don't buy spears from Scheels! They are too heavy and not weight balanced correctly. I received a few as a gift and they're garbage. Dark House is very reputable, plasma cut spears with a great weight......a few more dollars than Scheels.
