Tell us your favorite jig
« on: Dec 31, 2013, 05:47 PM »
I thought Id start this topic with as many of you replying what you like to use.

Ill go first.  For Crappie I use a demon jig, (put a flashlight to it to make it glow)
For Pike, trout, bass, anything else really I sometimes used a cast master or a Lake Trout style jig.

Lets hear your ideas?

Toss up between Swedish Pimple (yellow or gold) or PK spoon (fire tiger glow or bengal tiger glow). I've brought 99% of my fish though the ice w/ one of these lures

Put a flashlight to it to make it glow.

A little upgrade is a good idea, as that won't last very long.  Much better and longer lasting glow is achieved by using a small UV (blueish) LED in the range of 365nm wave length.   They can be had from less than $5 bucks to near $30 bucks, that one from Frigidaire, used in locating freon leaks.  They'll glow almost blinding and hold the glow longest. Just Google :UV flashlight.     Maybe avoid those near $200 bucks, ha.  It's not rocket surgery.     ;)2

My favorite jig/lure has a PK Lures logo on it.

Is there a certain way to fish those kits tackle jigs thru the ice? Kind of a silly question but I've tried using them and I haven't had any luck hooking a fish or even gettin a bite with them yet. When I have used them I could see fish swim up to them like they were interested but then swim away. And I've tried all kinds of different things. But then again, that's fishing sometimes.

I use a digital camera flash to make mine glow. One pop from that at about an inch from the lure and they glow like fire for hours and hours. My favorite jig is a swedish pimple that has a glow strip on one side and on the other side I epoxied a small two or three bead glass rattle of the kind you slide inside rubber worms to make them rattle for bass. That way my lure glows and makes noise when I bounce it which on Noxon seems to be the trick for big perch. I tip it with a perch eye or frozen minnow head. Works like gang busters and I constantly do well on the perch over 10". Last Friday we got more than 50 of them in just a few hours on that setup.

I used to use the foxee  jigs when I was back in WA. I have not been able to find them for quite a while. I liked them for walleye.

Ling would hit them pretty hard as well. Last year my new favorite jig was the Kit's Jig Glass Minnow in yellow perch. Those things look alive underwater! I caught many rainbow and ling on them in both Hauser and below canyon ferry dam, in addition to my personal best brown. The brown wasn't a trophy- 6lbs- but it hit that glass minnow like a truck and gave me a heck of a memorable fight. I can forsee the glass minnow becoming a classic- just when I thought Kit's Jigs were as good as they could get!

For trout, swedish pimple tipped with cheese and two maggots or a hand-tied marabou jig.
For ling, the big glow jig with mylar wings that some guy in Dillon makes.
