Ugly has been good to me; I like it overcast with light snow cover on the ice. Late afternoon and eve. has been good for me as well. If I could actually choose, (and work always seems to get in the way) overcast, with a low pressure system, just before a storm, following several days of stable weather. There would probably be a nice blue gill bite to go with. As for lakes that are near me that are good on sunny days, the fishing is usually in deeper water 25' or so.

Depends on the fishery.

The deeper the water (over 25'), snow cover, and ice thickness the brighter the better.

The shallower the water, less snow cover, and thinner ice over cast is better.

I would have to say that right at sun rise is the best. And that last hour of bright daylight is good.

On the lakes in my area I have not found first light to be productive. Usually 9 or 10 am starts the most productive times to fish. Overcast or fog are my favorite conditions.

I agree with you. The number of times I have gone out at 6-7  am and have done very well starting at 10-11 am is unbelieveable. Here is  something you can put in your favorites.

I usually do better when a moon phase is ~2hr after sunrize.  The hr before and after are hot.  Calm or ugly.

Bingo !!!

Especially getting close to late ice just before the spawn.Seems like they put the feed bag on.But I think I've done the best on bright days with just before a front a close second.

Don't see much difference with weather. Just find them in (possibly) different areas/patterns/routes depending on the weather/light.
