It Broke My Heart
« on: Dec 02, 2019, 04:03 PM »
Went perch/pike fishing Saturday (won't say where).  10 degrees & 2.5" of good ice w/open water and geese near me.  Risky fishing for sure.  Had a slob of a pike break my perch rod in two places and straighten my hook (on a 1" jig).  10# fluorocarbon line held but the rod & hook didn't.  I was "Heart Broken".  3rd time in 70 years.  Hope it never happens again.  Just venting while drinking an IPA.

Wow, that's rough, I feel for you. Hard to take when that happens. I had a few big ling straighten hooks on small perch jigs.

You're lucky that it didn't pull so hard that it could pull you through that thin ice.

Had a 50' safety line secured to another hole . . . just in case.  The more I dwell on it, I'll sip on some Pendleton after killing this IPA.  Will head out tomorrow and try again.

cant help but feel a little happy for the fish In a situation like that. as heartbreaking as it is for the fisherman. lucky bugger lives another day.

Hopefully if it was that big, he would have released it.

I would have started with the Pendleton.   Hope you get a second crack at her!
