Do any of you take the soft case off your Marcums and use it that way?

I just keep it on. Don't think it would hurt it.  But it does keep the weather off the battery and wires.

No I leave them on, protects them in the sled or when left outside unused in the elements, flaps tuck easily out of the way so never had a need to take the case off other than to replace the battery

Tried it earlier this year, the handle is too loose and rattles. Drove me crazy. If I want to do it again I'll have to hit that handle with some silicone sealer or something to hold it in place.

I always leave it on. At the very least it helps protect the unit when being bounced around heading across the lake.

I took the cover off my LX-3 because with the cover on it would not fit in a cat litter bucket.  Also, the cover was soaking up water and freezing to the ice.   I also found that the cover makes it difficult to access the battery terminals to attach the charger and to adjust the transducer cable length.  The cover is hard to remove or replace if you need to switch to a backup battery.

I made a wooden carry tote for it to make it easier to carry and so I could add a vertical rod holder to transport the flasher and rod in one hand and my auger in the other when I run and gun.

Everyone has to believe in something.  I believe I'll go fishing.

In 3 year I have never had the cover off, no need to. It protects the unit nicely. Plus I think it helps insulate the battery from the cold, a freezing cold battery has less power.

The covers are designed to be functional not just attractive. They help to protect and insulate the unit and the battery. The covers stay on all our marcums
It's more important to be nice, than it is nice to be important.

Anyone ever put an lx5 on a vexlair propack? Im thinking about doing that so it will fit in a bucket and the option of a beer holder

Leave it on for the protection.
