Just saw this pic and passing it on,I guess it was caught in maryland last year

That is a hawg... SMASHED the Maryland state record as I recall... a bit of controversy surrounding that catch too I think... don't remember the details, but it was eventually verifed as a record.

Hard to belive the world record is nearly a pound heavier than that fish... and out of the DELAWARE RIVER for god's sake! One of the oldest records in the books too I think... dating back to the 1800's (maybe)?

Actually the historical record of 4lb 4 oz came out of a tributary of the Delaware called Crosswicks Creek in New Jersey....in the last year of the Civil War! 1865.

I watched a report on Discovery channel that the same perch we have here can grow up to 15 Ib in Nile river in Egypt, the report says that it is not commercially favorable there because it exists but not abundant. Something eh??.

I believe you're thinking of pecock bass, they look just like a huge perch, and I believe they can get up to the high 20lb range..

I am pretty sure that Peacock Bass are from South America, mostly found in the Amazon River. See them in Venezuela most of the time on tv fishing for them

No... he is right.. I saw the show.. The perch in the Nile are called Nile perch. Look like over grown white perch. Peacock Bass are in the Amazon...

Maryland has dual state records now and still recognize the original record fish, because this perch was caught out of a farm pond.

Actually, the Nile perch (Lates niloticus) grows to a maximum length of nearly two metres (more than six feet), weighing up to 200 kg (440 lb).

A smaller Nile...

5 lb, 15 oz Yellow perch
