Those January and late December rains! Probably why the pike fishing has been so good

Back up to 766! There were a couple winters back in the mid 2000s when we had water like this, even came close to spilling over the dam a few times. But at least we had ice, just a lot more water to figure out. Glad I have my skiing pass this year!

Ice fished GSL today 4 to 5 inches of ice, fished off of south shore rd. Caught one keeper walleye and one northern pike. My cousin had a nice pike on but broke the line at the hole, he also caught a mud puppy jigging. What a beautiful day for first outing.
If fishing is a sport are we considered athletes?

I know the Walleye Challenge is cancelled this weekend, mostly due to unsafe ice for machines.  When fuel n food announced the cancelation of the tournament, they did say
that most of the lake has roughly 5 inches of ice.  Has anyone been on the ice recently or seen GSL (specifically near the Broadalbin boat launch area).
If possible, I would like to try my luck for a walleye or pike on Sunday (walking out obviously).

Any info is appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Jeremy

I talked to some guys coming off on Saturday at the launch. They had been out to 28' and said that the ice had deteriorated fast from the day before. Be careful !

No need for me get on sketchy ice.
I will head north for some panfish and some safer ice.

I do like to try GSL once a year through the ice for a big pike and or walleye.

Thanks again,

Jeremy

Tiger there are some decent areas and there are some bad areas. You cannot go blindly trudging out there. Due diligents is required. I was out yesterday on an area that I have repeatedly fished whenever possible. That is the only way to know if it is "safe". The last few nites it has tightened up a bit, but it is NOT getting any thicker. It is just too late.

The GSLFF held their annual ice fishing derby today. And I saw several ice sail boats out across the lake.

OH! And I forgot to mention that the Fuel & Food's three day tournament, March 1-3, IS STILL GOING TO TAKE PLACE.  The owner of the Fuel & Food store and main sponsor of the tournament, Lou (can't remember his Last name, it's late, I'm tired), told me himself, in person, TODAY, that his tournament WILL go on as scheduled. If anyone doubts this information, just look up the Fuel & Food Store and call them.

I fished out of the broadalbin launch today. I walked straight out a couple hundred yards. About 5” everywhere I drilled. Got one 16” eye. Ice sleds and snowmobiles all day.

The fisheries federation contest was canceled

I was at the Walleye Challenge party and it was announced that the GSLFF Contest was happening at that time.

Also, Lou, who was running the Walleye Challenge party to give away the prizes, because THAT contest was cancelled, announced that his Fuel & Food tourney on the first weekend in March WILL take place as scheduled.
