Most of the lake is open water as of yesterday. There may be a few bays with some ice but it will be awhile before I would trust any of it. We have had cold, then snow, then rain and warm temps. Today and Sat it is 30/40's and rain in the forecast....h2l

Yes I am talking about Gsl,up by sport island pub. I spudded my way around and it is good solid ice. That portion has been frozen for a while now,on and off. I’m definitely not gonna venture out very far,and Saturday’s weather may wreck the ice conditions. Next week should make good ice.

Hey Goose. Has anything else locked up other than in the bays up there or did the weather last week wipe out any ice there was?

There is still ice on the Northville side and bays are still frozen,it doesn’t look like the weather harmed it too much, these next couple days will definitely help.

Just not as much as there was last week. Lake has come up a little over a foot in the last week. There was a lot of water on top over the weekend where there was ice. We have about 3 inches of new snow, but as Goose said it will be getting cold the rest of the week.....h2l

I am sure it will make "some more" ice but how much. Right now they are calling for 8/9 days of temps in 30 to 40's with nighttime lows in the 20's. Another thing to keep in mind is that the lake is going down about 3 inches a day. Just be safe out there with an atv….h2l

Yeah, I agree w Fordman. I’d say bring it along if you want njmar but don’t bank on using it until you check the ice for yourself.

Good luck guys. It’s almost game time!! Be Safe!!

The lake is about 10 feet higher than it should be for this time of year. They have to draw it down to make room for the spring rains and run-off....h2l

Just looked at the forecast, doesn’t look so hot for the ice. On a good note, we got a 30” pike so far today

Nice.  The gsl can produce some nice fish. I keep my boat at a marina during the summer. We fish off the dock all the time and catch fish. I’ve got 5-6 eyes in an hour before. They seem to really school up. Lots of smallmouth too. My stepson pulled in 3 in a row this spring.

If you know the right spots, the Dead Sea can pay off very nicely..this big girl was a fine Christmas present today, along with another decent pike and 4 eater walleye.

That's a good start to the year Goose! Is the ice going to hold up for this coming weekend?
