o2 I hear what you are saying, but there are those that have fished every year but live out of town and may not drive just for the drawing. It is one year out of all those others that only the fisherman had a chance for the money. I don't see it has a big issue. I have stated before, why not sell tickets for those that do not fish. It would put more money in for prizes and at the same time make more tickets available for those that do fish. Then if another year like this happens, problem solved. If I find your shanty I will take you up on that beer....h2l

Yes I agree with separate tickets for those just looking for chance at machine and allowing those that want to fish the chance to. Once we get our spot I'll let you know. 😉

That's the spirit o2 get out and fish,You guys may be on to something with the separate ticket thing, that way everyone can get in the raffle for machines, and the people that do fish for prize money ,that number could even grow, increasing pay outs, I know that there are alot of people that want to get in ,but can not because its full

Yea they did pay the same as the rest of us, but if they don't fish how do they have the same odds to cash hourly money as the ones that freeze their asses off out there for 8 hours. I know a lot of people only get into this contest for the chance to win 1 of the machines. In which they don't have to be present for to claim. All door prizes you need to claim by 5pm. So in the case of no contest and random drawing of the hourly payouts you should have to be present to claim. I have also entered this contest since the very beginning and braved the elements every year unlike some this year that will most likely cash in on an hourly payout........
RMK I agree, Im out there every year no matter the weather. You EARN it that way but then again everyone did pay the same amount, so I get that to. Either way we will all be safe this year (hopefully). The separate raffle is a great idea. LMK where you will be would love to meet up, I will be fishing the morning too.

Fished Sunday and Monday by Sport island. 5"+ solid, and we checked  all over a huge area and it was consistent even on the East shore (stay away from the spillway obviously. There were several groups by the campground and one group with two snowmobiles in the middle between sport island and the campground. The north part seems consistently frozen. Southern part is a different story, be very careful. 6"+ to 2" in a couple steps is very possible.

Any Shanties out yet?  We're hoping to get ours out tomorrow.  We'll start in a bay and move out from there.

I would say the Broadalbin boat launch is about the best parking and access spot on the lake with decent fishing not to far of a walk out.

Is it just my luck or are the big Yelow Perch getting scarce? Big yellows used to make up a large part of our catch, but over the last couple years our numbers have gone down. Is anyone else having the same experience or care to weigh in?

White perch moved in.  They don't seem to play well with yellow perch and the yellows come out on the losing end.  The same thing happened at the Tomhannock a few years ago.  You still get some yellow perch but many more whites now and some of the whites are 14"+.

Its funny, us NYers love the Yellows and the Maine guys swear by the Whites and don't care for the Yellows.

Darker meat and very fishy tasting IMO.  Nothing like yellow perch, walleye, or crappie that's for sure.
