Bought 2 dozen shiners last night at around 730pm when I got home already 2 had died then wake up this morning ready to go and the entire 2 dozen are dead. They also were not looking very stable last night before bed. Had it full of water bubble box going. Should have ripped up 8 bucks threw it in the bucket and filled it with water as I watch the 8 bucks float belly up.

Thats to bad..
Did Runnings have them inside in warm water?
Did you keep them outside so the water stayed cold?
I have 2 five gallon buckets now with 6 dozen fatheads and shiners in each bucket for days with no bubbler..
I keep them outside till they get some ice than bring them in the basement till the next day and put them back outside...   Works for me..      :-\

i put the in the basement and that usually does the trick even the water he put in the bucket looked a little iffy. Clear water that looked a bit dirty then he put the minnows in. Ive never really had bait that just all dies like that before. Just a bad batch right there.

It happens...
I was way up north and stopped at a house that had a bait sign out.
The water in there tanks was like 80* and out side was 10*.
Five dozen dead shiners by time I drove 20 minuets to the lake...     :-\

Unfortunately fish307 bait is about the same I don't think they change there water enough iv found that changing the water as soon as I get home with the bait will eliminate the dead loss

a couple dollar  fish tank temp  will save you a lot of money !!!!  don't guess check the water temp when you buy them and lower is slowly!  secondly make sure your  buckets at  "CLEAN"  and I mean  no soap  no chemicals at home  I have a  fish tank bubbler I throw in...a cheap  fish tank filter with charcoal will keep the water clean and keep the ammona levels down ...seems like a lot of work but it's really not

The runnings store in clay is no better.  3.99 a dozen for fatheads?  I'll pass.  I'll buy bait from the local bait shops before I go to runnings.

Did you go back to Runnings, tell them what happened, and give them a chance to replace them...??

Water temperature is the key. A change in temperature of 5 degrees could kill your fish. So spend a little extra and get a cheap thermometer. Check bait bucket then lake water. It will surprise you the difference in temp when your shiner goes belly up the minute you put it in the water.

I always so the same thing whenever I am forced to but 307 bait. Their tanks are warm and disgusting.
