the easiest thing you can do if you want the top pivot handle is to find a buddy who is taking a mora or lazer auger and setting it up for a drill. If they no longer want their handle, get it and put it on your auger. Throw your handle and that knob that isn't going to work on it in the trash.

If that auger was hard to use as is, your blades are likely shot - i wouldn't blame the handle without putting some new lazer blades on it. Those HT blades are notoriously crap, don't last long, and don't cut that well out of the box. 6" lazer blades are 30-40$ new

You could also bend up a new handle out of emt and put a real strikemaster top knob on it - its a push fit item

If I recall correctly the HT hand augers in general don't work so well ..the model the OP posted in particular ..I believe its in the design ..taking from the offset handle design ..but not allowing for enough downward pressure that is need for a non offset handle .

The kid has passion ...but no patience . That will not translate to well to our sport .

EF ..I would suggest if you want a back up auger ..look to getting a StrikeMaster/Mora ..trying to reinvent the wheel with what you have will only end in disappointment and be expensive in the long run .

If I throw a stick of dyno mite down the hole how far do I need to run? Is it safe to watch it until lit is out of site? Which color works best? Where do I buy one? Will someone please give me a ride?
