Lithium Flasher Batteries to Canada
« on: Feb 06, 2019, 09:50 AM »
Considering going Lithium Battery for my Vexilar.

I reached out to Energized Outdoors and Matthew Responded that indeed they have and do ship these batteries up to Canada BUT only using couriers and NOT USPS (Hazardous Materials)

Hoping there are other Canucks on this forum who can chime in on their experience as to Possible Brokerage Fees bringing these batteries up. I’ve been gouged so bad in the past once the courier drivers knocking on my door (purchased from US Retailers who ship to Canadian Customers)

Sadly their outrageous Brokerage fees have proven to be more than the purchased item itself.

I’m not exactly sure the difference in “Weight” between these factory installed Lead Acid batteries from Vexilar compared to Lithium but if it’s going to open an ugly pail of worms from high priced brokerage fees that I’ve come to expect anymore using couriers I’ll suffer with the extra weight and no I have absolutely no desire to fill out my own brokerage forms

any idea what a standard Lead acid Flasher battery weighs in at ?? I’d sure like to have a Lithium battery for my Vex but not with typical courier brokerage on top.

Lead acid will weigh in between 6-7lbs. Unfortunately there is no way to get around customs in Canada unless you have a way to ship to the USA and pickup. Right now Energized Outdoors will ship UPS only. DHL just cost Energized Outdoors a few hundred dollars in incoming and outgoing and now will no longer do lithium over the border even though LiFePO4 is one of the safest technologies in batteries. UPS is still our last hope. So far no issues in almost 100+ shipments to Canada with them. Thanks!

As an example Matthew, if an item is sent from the US to Canada through USPS, once it hits Canada Customs, 9/10 times even if it’s a $200 Value they will most times let it go straight through with Zero or added Customs and or Duties...

Not the case with Couriers because they absolutely rape us with their Brokerage fees. I’ve seen close to $200 brokerage on a $50USD item then pay it and fight them on the phone trying to get it back.

I actually just received last week and “reimbursement” for almost $22 from a Law Firm from Toronto who was hired to stand up against these outrageous fees from UPS so that should help confirm I’m not the only witness to their practices.

Sad and scary thing is, we never know what they’ll charge us until the driver arrives and a chance presently I’m not willing to take unless you feel sure enough any brokerage fees you’ll consider absorbing to send one up. I’ll bet a crisp $50 bill the courier driver will be asking for between $50-$100 to hand me over the parcel

The replacement battery from Vexilar comes in at 2.75 kg.

Just weighed a 7amp gell at 5.1 pounds and a 12 amp gell at 8.0lbs.  Go to Canadian Tire, cheapest I've found so far, a 7.2 amp is $36, a 9 amp is around $45.   Seriously, for the couple pounds if you're moving your kit in a sled or flip over, its not going to kill you.  Those crazy prices for shipping, brokerage, money exchange at 35% and tax on top just doesn't make sense.

FYI, I just weighed my 12 AH SLA battery ($62 from Canadian Tire) and it is 4.03kg or 8.88lbs, quite a bit more than a lithium but way cheaper

Don't know where you're located exactly, but there's another place in Burlington that sells even cheaper. https://www.batteryspecialist.ca/
