"Manual" dynamic depth - Marcum LX-7

Maybe this is the worst named feature ever (an oxymoron, to me).  Can anybody explain in a few words what it is trying to do?  I've got the update but haven't been out on the ice yet - too cold for this old body.

Allows you to adjust for 100% use of the dial, I like it...
