No I ordered from miltona, mn
-
I extended the frame by attaching green treated 2x3 to the frame. Now width is 8'4".

Cut styrofoam between the green treated.

That floor material is not gonna like moisture. I have seen campers that use a membrane underneath. You may want to consider that.

It's exterior grade tongue and flooring
-
Nice drop frame. Who manufactures it and do you have the specs on the frame weight?
-
That's looking sweet can't wait to see finished project keep up the good work brotha
-
Looking good!!! Will you be covering the floor where it hangs over the metal frame???
-
Nice drop frame. Who manufactures it and do you have the specs on the frame weight?
Miltona blacksmith. Don't have the starting frame weight. Decided to start with 6'4" model to save money, and by putting the green treat on the frame the foam gets supported by the frame. If it starts to fall or sag, I will solid sheet it or remove and spray foam.
-
lookin good
-
i like it, but heavy!
-
Sorry guys slow going right now. Started to stain the 1/4 inch plywood panels

Looks pretty nice! It'd be real nice to have one of those, but the PA fish commission forbids driving ATVs, snowmobiles, and automobiles on public lakes
-
WHAT? You can't drive a snowmobile or ATV on a lake in PA? I'd move.😉
Nice fish house project! I will be following your progress. (Jealousy).
-
Good looking build thank you for all the photos. Just curious what are the other 2 frame works visible in back ground of your photos ? It appears you are working in a commercial garage given the door sizes and amount of space.
Steve
-
Sweet ! Lookin forward to seein the progress and reports ! Thanks for sharin and good pics too !

Steve
Those are training booths, they are used to practice wiring and/or plumbing
-
Thank you for the reply to my question Cfilbert.
Steve

Well I got some time today, started to work the wheel wells. I used 1/4 inch HDPE
(http://i.imgur.com/xTKO0BI.jpg?1)
-
I have the first three sheets of ceiling hung. These are 1/4 inch birch plywood painted cottage white. The LED lights each have a toggle switch by each of them.
The seams will be covered with 3/8 x 1 inch strips stained to the wall color.
-
I started to do some of the initial wiring. Using bus bars to make all connections. The cdx plywood is just a mounting board. If you look beside the plywood you will see the birch plywood that will be going on the walls.
-
Well the lights work. All connections are soldered with heat shrink tubing. I also got the first two speakers installed. The ceiling fan in the middle should help with pushing the heat down.
(http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/w487/clairfilbert59/image_zpsz1boqmic.jpeg) (http://s1078.photobucket.com/user/clairfilbert59/media/image_zpsz1boqmic.jpeg.html)
-
Looking good. Take your time, and post a lot of pics
-
Well the rest of the ceiling has been installed. 8 led lights and 4 speakers have been installed
(http://i.imgur.com/qXuOb3I.jpg?1)
-
Furnace has been installed. This is a 30000 BTU suburban forced air furnace, quiet series.
-
And a picture from the outside of the furnace opening

-
Started the cabinets, this first piece is the chase where the wiring will be. To the left of the corner will be a cabinet door that will be accessible to do any repairs. Installed is a Jensen home theater system. Below is a 4 switch with cigarette lighter, the other round port is a dual port USB with voltage meter. By the way cranked up this thing is loud.

Project is coming along nice.
-
Very nice progress! Love to see a project come together and how you got there.
-
Just a couple of updates. I got the power distribution panel installed.
-
Looks really nice ,well thought out, wish it was mine ;D
-
Not looking to cause any arguments here but just from my own experience of towing my wheel house the front of my wheel house does get caked with road grime (slush / mud / dust). With the location of your furnace my concern would be the air intake and especially the exhaust port getting plugged. If your intention is to leave your unit on the lake then snow dust may also become an issue. Just my two cents worth! Nice build by the way!!!
-
Nice build. We don't have the winters anymore to use big shacks like that.
I'm jealous.
OSB holds up on the floor?
-
Well this past weekend I got a little time to work on the fish house. I started by Jchanneling around the HDPE wheel wells. I also installed a Tin Starter rail at the bottom.
(http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/w487/clairfilbert59/IMG_20170317_160953_zpswkr1vxxa.jpg) (http://s1078.photobucket.com/user/clairfilbert59/media/IMG_20170317_160953_zpswkr1vxxa.jpg.html)
-
After insulating and tyveking the shell, I started by putting in the windows. I utilized Butyl adhesive to seal the windows. The windows had a built in J channel however the black channel I made fit in and gives a nice accent to the window itself.
(http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/w487/clairfilbert59/IMG_20170318_145523_zps3k6ynoqg.jpg) (http://s1078.photobucket.com/user/clairfilbert59/media/IMG_20170318_145523_zps3k6ynoqg.jpg.html)
-
The door is a 32 inch that I switched the brickmould around to make it outswing. I then covered the brickmould with a black cap.
(http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/w487/clairfilbert59/IMG_20170318_145519_zpswfh0dbws.jpg) (http://s1078.photobucket.com/user/clairfilbert59/media/IMG_20170318_145519_zpswfh0dbws.jpg.html)
-
Door side finished with tin. and the porch light is installed.
-
Back tin installed, I also started in the middle so the tail lights would be evenly spaced from the outside edge.
-
Other side of house is tinned. the corner medal is bent and will be installed when my VHB tape gets here. I tried utilizing Screws and silicone it just bubble the tine.
-
What I have left to finish the outside is the half of the front of the Vee. I ran out of my Starter tin for the bottom (by approxi 4') and insulating, sheeting and putting the rubber on the roof.
-
That is really looking good!! How about some inside shots when you get time??
-
That is really looking good!! How about some inside shots when you get time??
Right now the inside is waiting until the outside is dried in. I am planning a countertop in the front, a couple of cabinets over the wheel wells and a full lenth bench across the back.
-
Not looking to cause any arguments here but just from my own experience of towing my wheel house the front of my wheel house does get caked with road grime (slush / mud / dust). With the location of your furnace my concern would be the air intake and especially the exhaust port getting plugged. If your intention is to leave your unit on the lake then snow dust may also become an issue. Just my two cents worth! Nice build by the way!!!
I also thought of this, I am boxing out the furnace panel with J Channel. I plan on getting a canvas cover to put over it for when not in use, to keep out critters and snow.
-
yeah pa dont like that, but that is an amazing build man. here i am proud of the fact i made a drill adapter and this guy goes and makes a house LOL. NICE ONE!
-
Good call on the furnace cover.....Patchman likes
-
Last night I finished up the nose of the fish house.
-
yeah that cover will keep slush out when haulin down the road too! nice work!!
-
Great looking build, great size, good pictures but I do have to agree with patchman5401 about the location of the furnace unless you plan on having a cover over it for traveling. Also if you shovel snow around your shack, it could be tough.
-
Looks like it's coming together nicely. Can't wait to see it when it's finished.
-
I like to leave my furnace running when moving between lakes. That location would be a problem.
-
Just working an hour every night on it things have started to slow down. Last night I got the ceiling insulated and the 3/8" plywood installed.
(http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/w487/clairfilbert59/IMG_20170322_163231_zpsyvsg05hg.jpg) (http://s1078.photobucket.com/user/clairfilbert59/media/IMG_20170322_163231_zpsyvsg05hg.jpg.html)
-
I started to fit the drip edge for the rubber roofing however all of the metal for the sides and front I bent to the wrong angle. the back piece was the only one that would work. The right side trim I have to wait until I get it to the heated shop so the VHB tape adheres properly. I was really hoping that tonight I would be able to tackle the rubber roof. Oh well I guess there is time yet.
(http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/w487/clairfilbert59/IMG_20170322_172928_zpswklrifaq.jpg) (http://s1078.photobucket.com/user/clairfilbert59/media/IMG_20170322_172928_zpswklrifaq.jpg.html)
-
Got the Dual Propane tanks installed, Don't worry about the Pine board the regulator is attached too. I have a green treated board I will wrap in the black aluminum sheet metal.
-
Got the rubber layed out overnight to let the creases come out of it. And trimmed it to fit.
(http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/w487/clairfilbert59/IMG_20170416_115655_zpsz0syclwi.jpg) (http://s1078.photobucket.com/user/clairfilbert59/media/IMG_20170416_115655_zpsz0syclwi.jpg.html)
-
Pulled back and put the EPDM adhesive down.
(http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/w487/clairfilbert59/IMG_20170416_115607_zpsjbvamaix.jpg) (http://s1078.photobucket.com/user/clairfilbert59/media/IMG_20170416_115607_zpsjbvamaix.jpg.html)

The pain staking process of brooming out all air bubbles
(http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/w487/clairfilbert59/IMG_20170416_114905_zpsltijuqj4.jpg) (http://s1078.photobucket.com/user/clairfilbert59/media/IMG_20170416_114905_zpsltijuqj4.jpg.html)
-
Then Parked out in the sun to finish curing. It also heats up the rubber and any small bubbles pull out flat.
-
What I have left to do is:
1. Insulate and sheet the inside wheel wells.
2. Build countertops for wheel wells
3. Apply floor filler to the entire floor
4. Epoxy floor
5. Build front cabinet and build countertop for it
6. Cut in Cook top in countertop
7. Build back bench
8. build cabinets for overtop the bench
9. Build 2 cabinets for over wheel wells.
10. Finish Trailer lights
11. Put corner trims in
12. install rubber floor base.
-
Thank you for the update and photos outside looks great. You will have one nice shanty once the inside is completed. Looking forward to photos of shanty on the ice next season.
Steve
-
That looks great.
-
well I started to play around with what to make my three countertops with. I originally thought Formica but decided to go somewhat different route.
This is my first test.
(http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/w487/clairfilbert59/IMG_20170424_144557_zpsiae2gnnl.jpg) (http://s1078.photobucket.com/user/clairfilbert59/media/IMG_20170424_144557_zpsiae2gnnl.jpg.html)
This is Vinyl Self Adhesive film just stuck to some plywood. I used a two part resin (Bartop Finish) to encapsulate it.
-
I may have mixed in a little powder to the resin though
(http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/w487/clairfilbert59/IMG_20170425_104305_zpskcd5ro1s.jpg) (http://s1078.photobucket.com/user/clairfilbert59/media/IMG_20170425_104305_zpskcd5ro1s.jpg.html)

Be sure you protect the regulator from road grime, build a cover.

Good Idea. Thanks for the input.

Took the hole covers off and a nice skim coat of floor leveler is put down

Put down the garage floor epoxy. I mixed silica sand in the epoxy to give a little texture

Here's a closeup of the expoy to show the texture

Tomorrow I will start putting the vinyl down on the counters and wheel wells, hopefully ready to pour the Bartop finish by next weekend.
-
Did you also insulate the wheel well tops, or is that white Styrofoam on top??
-
Yes there is 1.5 inch styrofoam on the top as well, and over it is 1/2 inch ACX plywood
-
Your shanty is coming together nicely Cfilbert thank you for the update and photos.
Steve
-
Looks great, can't wait to see it finished.
-
Looks good, good pictures. :)
-
Great build!! We love our shack porn on here!! Keep it coming!!!

Put the vinyl down tonight. Ran short, had to order another roll

Did the wheel wells. Also. When it dries I will cover with a two part bar top epoxy.

-
Well ran into my first oh crap moment. The vinyl wrap I used for the countertops. It bubbles the next morning. Time for plan b.
-
After the disappointment about the counters, I decided to some wiring. Tail lights wired, soldered and heat shrunk.
(http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/w487/clairfilbert59/IMG_20170513_121805_zpsr5txrmq8.jpg) (http://s1078.photobucket.com/user/clairfilbert59/media/IMG_20170513_121805_zpsr5txrmq8.jpg.html)

Stained some trim boards up

It's looking good!! You're coming right along!!
-
I agree with OldSailor guessing you were able to remove bubbles from vinyl since you have applied epoxy.
Steve

I tore the original sheet vinyl off, I utilized 12 inch vinyl tiles. I figure when the adhesive was curing it release gas causing bubbles. With the tiles it has more cracks for releasing.
-
That is such a good idea with tiles!! Stealing it! ;D Thanks
-
That is such a good idea with tiles!! Stealing it! ;D Thanks
Make sure when you are installing them to get them really warm. Use a good adhesive. I used this:
https://www.amazon.com/00141-Multi-Purpose-Floor-Adhesive-1-Quart/dp/B0006MXRXO/ref=pd_bxgy_60_2?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B0006MXRXO&pd_rd_r=MX86W7CF4EB0ZDVFD3EE&pd_rd_w=WT6d4&pd_rd_wg=fonZ4&psc=1&refRID=MX86W7CF4EB0ZDVFD3EE
If a corner starts to warp up set something heavy on it until the adhesive dries.
-
Cfilbert sorry you had to remove sheet vinyl glad you found a solution to the problem.
Steve

With the long weekend I got to work on the ice house. Built the two cabinets for on top of the wheel wells

What have you done to make your rattle wheels rattle ???

What have you done to make your rattle wheels rattle ???
I put two of these bells inside prior to gluing together.

Cfilbert nice work big cost savings making your own rattle reels provided you already have the tools and knowledge to complete such a project. I noticed the tip of rod you placed into rod holder is slightly bent I would release some of the line tension on that rod over time the rod could develop a permanent bend if always stored under tension.

Really the only tools a guy really needs to make these is a 4" hole saw and 1/4" drill bit. I nailed all the 1/4 plywood together and drilled through them all at the same time.
I just wanted to see if it would still work under tension. None of my rods are actually hooked to the keeper. I let the hook tighten up to the top eyelet.
Thanks for keeping me honest though. LOL.

That should get your attention!! Good idea! And I agree with Steve about not storing rods with bends in them!!

Man that's beautiful, you could use it for a full time house.

Are you putting bunks in the house? If so, what type?

Are you putting bunks in the house? If so, what type?
No bunks other than the back bench. There will be cushions made for it. One set for seat and one for back rest. When two of us are spending the night a cot will come out and the backrest will fit the cot.

Yeah I built it for ice fishing and for hunting.

After a couple weeks I got back to work. I removed the cabinet doors and bar top finished some fish on them to break up the solid white in front
-
I put a couple of drawers inside the middle cabinet. I now know why I don't like installing drawers. These two took me 4 hours to build and install.
The end cabinet has a couple of shelves.
The other cabinet is battery storage. All soundproofed to keep the furnace quieter.

Also put fish on the wheel well cabinets.

The other cabinet. You have to have Minnows right?

Inside some simple shelves, places for T.P.

Rattle reels installed. They are threaded through a hook on the ceiling, when not in use they hook back to themselves out of the way.

Do you have an idea how much you have spent? Was it worth it or looking back, next time buy a commercial unit and customize it?
-
Total cost to include generator, frame, materials, propane tanks is around 7k
-
The real test will be getting it out on the ice and seeing how it fishes!!! The waiting will be the hardest part!! Keep us up to date please! I've enjoyed following your build! We enjoy our shack porn on here!!! ;)2
-
Any idea on what total weight is or have you had it on a scale?
-
You do high quality work Cfilbert. The fish decals are a nice touch on the cabinets. Also like the rattle reel set up smart idea since your reels are flush mounted to walls and do not swing out over fishing hole. Thank you for the update and photos. Patiently waiting to see photos of shanty on the ice and your smiling face holding first fish caught in shanty.

Well I just got the wheelhouse weighed. The total weight for this bad boy is 3960 pounds. I was a little surprised but after looking at Ice Castle's "Bobbers Down" (Which is the closest style to what I have built) Weighed in at 3800 pounds. Overall I think I will be ok pulling on the Ice.
Sorry for the pictures maybe this weekend I will upload all of the pictures to another picture sharing site and fix them.

There had been posts on using imgur. I'm sure someone can help you out. I don't post pictures, so I'm no help, but let me see if I can find the thread. I'll up date this reply when/if I find it!
Edit.. Try this.. http://www.iceshanty.com/ice_fishing/index.php?topic=336132.msg3564051#msg3564051

The previous post is the tarps i had made for the wheel wells. last year a buddy had one out on the lake and banked the wells. Finished product for him was he had built in chalk blocks and needed to be tugged out of the frozen ruts when hooked up to the house.

Well most of the pictures have been changed over from Photobucket to IMGUR, I will have to get the rest off my old phone.

Just went into the DMV and got at license plate for it. $20 for two years and now I can pull it in Minnesota. Its listed as a utility trailer since ND doesn't require plates for Fishhouses.

That is way nice...I would use it all summer and fall if I could for that.. But I don't think they let you do that here.... :-\

Your shanty build is looking great ,thank you for taking the time to transfer your photos to a new hosting web site. The little touches you have added really make the shanty something special.

I hope you get a wall hanger on your first trip this winter.

I got my cushion in today. Really impressed with the quick shipping from Clarksfield. Had it next day. Surprised that the cover comes off for washing. It had nothing about it in the description.

Got to work on the house last night.
I cut the excess off of the wheel well covers
(http://i.imgur.com/Vd3IXgw.jpg?1)
The pieces that I trimmed off I made a furnace cover for getting the shack to the lake.
Also took the door off of the electrical cabinet and bar top epoxied this Pike on it.

Thank you for the update, Once again I give you a big  on the quality of your work. The Corn Hole boards look great also sure your fire dept. will be glad to have them for recreational use and festivals.

Great job. If only the ice was this kind enough in Indiana to have one shack like that.
-
Yeah, totally love the hard water here in nodak. I figure at 4000 lbs I can get out on 12 inches using utv to pull it.
-
Received my new cable winches. Dual speed heavy duty. The originals are already getting loose. Will post pictures once I get them installed

I think that the fit and finish of your house looks great.... but I am not exactly sure about your decision to buy a 6.5' frame and extend it to a 8' frame. If you think about it... a large portion of the weight of your house is going to be supported by the 14 points where the 2x3's cross the steel frame. Your end wall and 4 joists next to the wheel wells will be supported, but all the weight of your walls, siding, cabinets, etc. are resting on those 14 pts. Not to mention the majority of your roof weight. Yes the sheathing will help strengthen things, but lakes are rough and that is a lot of weight to be bouncing around. Just my two cents...
-
Well going from my house construction background, I know we can cantilever joists over the foundation. It is just 9 inches. And the joists are two feet on center. If I notice problems I do have a plan b. Remove the styrofoam and use 1 1/2 inch angle iron and reinforce the joists. But to help carry the load is the floor sheeting, joists, hdpe, interior sheeting, and the top sill plates. We will see if after a year if anything shifts.
-
Here is what I received for my replacement winches
(http://i.imgur.com/VOKf6D0.jpg?1)
The new ones look a little beefier than the originals

And now I can use the EZ Up bit to raise my Shack
(http://i.imgur.com/FXu4FI6.jpg?1)
-
I've got that setup on my wheel house, and use the EZ up.
Here is my word of warning. When using the Milwaukee brushless drill high torque drill be careful, and use the clutch setting on the drill.
I have.
1. Snapped the cable using the Milwaukee
2. Sprained and almost broke my wrist with the Milwaukee when cranking it up.
3. Had the set screw snap on the Milwaukee chuck and spin the chuck off.
The setup works great, just remember to go slow and use the clutch setting. with the high torque that drill will tear crap up. When I was changing out my 725in/lb Milwaukee to the 1200in/lb Milwaukee on my clam plate, I put the 1200in/lb in a vice on my work bench, then used the 725in/lb mmilwaukee with a bit to try and remove the set screw out of the chuck. I braced myself and hit the trigger, only to watch the Milwaukee drill rip the work bench apart and the drill/vice/chunk of the work bench went spinning. Now on the edge where my vice is there is a curved area...
-
The first time I used the EZ bit I had the direction wrong on the drill. The drill twisted so hard in my hands I thought I broke my forearm. Right afterword the clutch was set.

Yep....I had mine in drill mode and needed to change the direction when switching sides........Was my first time and didn't know better......Put the EZ bit on hit the trigger, and messed up my wrist. was sore for about two weeks.

Alright, now back to the build!!! We need us some shack porn!! ;)
The only thing I have left is to but lock latches on the doors (prevention from opening while moving) and to make a cover for the propane regulator. I ordered additional snaps for the cover and my latches should be here from the A store on Thursday.

It will be sad to see this build come to and end! :'( It's been a real pleasure to follow it along to completion!! Once the season starts, and you get it out on the ice and start fishing in it, take some pics and let us know how well you like it!! Thanks for the excellent shack porn!!!!   :icefish:
-
I'm officially done with this build. Tomorrow I am going to take the final pictures.
-
That is truly sad news!!! I've so enjoyed following along as the build progressed! I look forward to the final pictures and wish you nothing but the best of luck fishing out of it this coming season!! It would be nice if you would post a couple of photos during the season showing it in use!! You did an excellent job!!! Congratulations!!   :icefish:

Well it's officially in storage for the next month. Pulled around three miles to its parking spot and no hitch ball rattle. I put my vehicle fl28 on the new Marcus shuttle. And currently building a new rod for the new freefall ghost.
-
Well I pulled the Shack out of Storage today. Did a quick cleanup and waiting until the ice gets a little thicker. Right now it is around 8 inches.
I will post pics on the ice and hopefully the first fish caught in the new shack.
-
I'm just wondering if your have the ice shack out? Picture and updates please!
-
I pulled it out on the 1st of January it was too cold to get pictures.. First off had a problem with the furnace. the Honeywell Digital Thermostat was reading Lo and would not cycle the furnace on. I shorted out the two wires to fire it up and once the interior got to 10 degrees then it would start to log the temperature. I reconnected the wires and voila the thermostat started to work. My solution was to by a Suburban brand (same as the furnace). That works. Second problem I had when lowering the cable clamp slipped and during the 30 below wind chill I was repairing the cable. Of course all I had was a crescent wrench. After that the frame lowered down easily. The Second day out I had my Champion generator sitting in the back of the pickup and after about three hours it just quit. I go outside to give it a pull and the recoil is frozen. Pulled it inside since everything is 12 volts and the furnace still worked I took the side cover off and it was completely packed in with snow. This would have pissed me off since the Bison game was on but luckily I decided to go with the 12 Volt tv. An Hour later the Genny started no problem and have had no problems since(expecially since I park the Pickup the facing into the wind now). Now I just need to do some more fishing hopefully the bite picks up soon.
-
Well good to hear! I'm glad you got the shack out, and sounds like you're getting the bugs worked out too. ;D The cold frigid temps will definitely help find out any issues, this way you can make improvements. OTG

Any updates on your shack?
