Hot Dogs for Pike?
« on: Jan 03, 2005, 08:59 AM »
I read on another forum that whole hot dogs work well for catching pike when placed on a smelt hook.  Any truth to this?  Ever try it?  Or is the guy just pulling our legs?

Zach, Maybe he meant weiner dogs. You're familiar with kicking them down the hole aren't you.  ;D

Yes Ken, it's a bit of a passion of mine. If there are weiner dogs out on the ice, forget fishin!  ;)Muahahahahaha
 ;D Weiner dogs everywhere, beware!

P.S.- I don't actually do this, it's a joke between Dachmation and myself....but it's fun to think about it! ;D

It really may work.Pike are opportunistic feeders.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an  well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, A fishing pole in one hand, beer in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming \"WOO HOO, what a ride!

I would think they would hit them some, but I would stick with live or dead minnows. Maybe if you put kraut and spicy mustard on it they would love it  :D

When I lived in upstate NY we used to fish for bass with hot dogs.  I think its the oils in them cause when they hit the water the oil just starts seeping to the top.  Anyway, we would slay bass with hot dogs and catch alot of eels and the occasional Northern.  I wouldn't rule it out.

That poodle is hilarious, but here in Colorado, we prefer the "Rainbow" pattern, with a chihuaha. ;).
