trapping emerald shiners late fall early winter?

I normally trap emerald shiners in streams and creeks in late fall but with all the rain and the high waters still on the mississippi I could not find them this year. I use glass minnow traps. With colder water temps where should I be looking  for them?

go further away from the mississippi....further back in those creeks
