How is the ice on Moosehead lake? Heading up tomorrow in the storm gonna fish tomorrow and Friday. Heading out of Rockwood looking to fish Cowan cove is there any spots I should look out for in that area? Anyone know the ice thickness up there thanks for the help.

I just got back from an over night
18 inches ice, mostly choppy ice from sleds wheelers
4 cusk, nothing great, one three lbs
One salmon and one togue and five hit and runs
Have fun, tight lines

I've heard there are quite a few spots with open water. Someone went through on a sled the other day and didn't make it. There are plenty of spots with 14-20" of ice. It's worth a call or visit to one of the local business owners or bait shops. Also some pressure ridges to look out for. As an added bonus, the new snow cover will hide old holes, etc... I know it goes without saying, but be careful! And good luck.
I like to walk on water.

I've heard as of this morning (Thursday)
There's anywhere between 0-36 inches of ice on Moosehead
But without knowing the area you're going,
you'll want to use extreme caution.
Like the above post says, A local guy from Greenville, lost his life yesterday on Moosehead.
With snow on the ice now, it'll make things so much worse.😕

Be safe my friends and never go out alone.

What about out from Beaver cove? Any reports of pressure ridges, soft spots out from there, thickness of ice? Going to be there Tuesday-Thursday of next week with a good friend and never actually fished Moosehead before. With this snow we were going to be bringing the sled, don't want to be putting myself in any areas that are risky.

I'll be up at moosehead next Thursday -sunday fishing out of Rockwood. I will have a sled to get around. This is my first trip to the lake I'm hoping to find a good spot for lakers and salmon. What are the most productive depths to target them?
Go big or go home
