Let the snow fly!  We had frost on the windshields Monday, opener for Moose was Monday, and the geese and cranes are thicker than heck right now.  Started the waterfowl season off yesterday, so I know ice fishing should be right around the corner, (Halloween-Nov.1st.)  Gotta take the auger in for a tune-up and blow the spiders out of the carb.  -Barleydog :'(

Evidently winter arrives early for you barleydog. Dove and nuisance goose season just opened here. That's those lazy ones that don't feel like going south. Need a 3inch mag  to get them moving along. Earliest i ever got on the ice was in "77. Got out the week before Thanksgiving. It was a brutal winter in Pennsylvania terms. Not to sure we need another one quite like that one, but early ice would be appreciated.

Hey Coolie, thanks for the idea!  I've had the shanty up and the AC on,  even drilled a hole in the floor and set the aquarium up in the cellar (caught a 2 1/2' Molly the other day!)  If I slap a tape in, it will be just like having neighbors on the ice!  Boy, I just keep coming up with more and more reasons to make momma proud.  I figure that when ice hits she'll be begging to get out of the house ;)
Fish may be stupid but I've never seen a perch sitting in a boat with a second degree sun burn trying to catch a man.

I have the itch bad.  Got the shacks out last weekend and aired them out good.  Going to put some type of divider in my 1 man yet and then I should be almost ready to rock.

Blackice, please explain about a divider in a one man. I mostly fish myself, and have a rule of thumb about shantys: Whatever size they advertise for, subtract one. IOW if they say its a two man shanty, its just right for one, if they say its a three man shanty its probably just right for two, etc. And I am usually on foot and dont want anything more than I need, but when you have your Vex, bait bucket, heater, lunchbox, etc, so even when your going light it all ads up.

Kenelz- By divider I mean something in the base of the sled to keep all my stuff from getting mixed into one giant mess.

I got real itchy last night. Got some new windlass tip-ups and put new line on them. Put half a spool on one before I realized I had wound it in the wrong direction.  Also picked up some # 6 Ratso's the other day from Gander Mountain.  Will have to pick up some # 10's next time out.

The weather here is PA has been chillier than normal.  IT was about 38 degrees all day today and tomorrow isn't any better.  I looked at the long range forecast(which usually means squat), but next Thurs & Friday the lows at night are calling for 21 and 24 degrees.  Bring it on.  Just got a new Jet Sled Tuesday and I think I will fire up the auger this weekend.   ;D
