Favorite dead stick stand?
« on: Mar 21, 2022, 10:27 AM »
Anyone have a favorite deadstick stand/holder for their deadstick rod? One that holds secure and may even help with a combo not going down a hole? To be used in close proximity to me jigging and with a baitfeeder.

The top of a bucket isn’t a good choice…

I use these too, added holes on the lip of my flipover to mount it, or I bring out a small piece of 2x6 with the same holes to use as a base. Don't think I've ever used it on a bucket like they show.

I like the top one.  The one on the bucket doesn’t seem very stable to me.  I have lost two dead sticks down the hole from unsecured wire rod holders.

In the flip shack I use that pole clamp
Model. I’m wondering about outside the shack.

Sullivan Tip downs work well with baitfeeders. https://sullivantipdown.com/sullivan-tip-drop

I have a tidy cat bucket. I cut a round hole in the edge about an inch down & put a V notch on the opposite side. Stick the but of the rod in the hole & in the V on the other side. Then I flip the handle over the rod. Caught many of fish that way. Never lost a rod yet. And some kind of weight in the bucket also. I use my fish bucket so there’s always weight in it

I find  more stability when I  mount the rod holder on the opposite side of the bucket and span the rod across the bucket

I have holders attached to my sled, but lots of folks use this JT outdoors model for the dead sticks- it is very stable, and lets you see subtle movements in the rod tip.

Anyone ever had a rod go down the hole in the JT Rod Holder?  Like the idea, folds up nice...

Bucket is still my best rod holder next to me.  If I feel sleepy, the rod is tethered to the bucket.  Never had a rod gone down like this but never know when it would happen.

I  believe this is why they like it- you can make it long enough that you support the rod way out towards the end, and it is almost impossible for it to tip into the hole.

The JT looks like the rod would go down the hole if a fish hits when unattended.  The best one I have seen is a homemade one out of plywood that I saw in a video.  I think it was Keith Kavajecz, but not sure.  I think I am going to build one.  I’ll post a pic when I am done.

By far most versatile, use on ice, offshore, on top of a 5 gallon bucket or in boat. I have caught many nice pike and bass on this set-up.
