Marcum Lithium Shuttle released
« on: Sep 06, 2017, 08:45 AM »
Here it is!

http://www.rapala.com/marcum/accessories/lithium-shuttle/MLS.html?cgid=marcum-accessories#start=4&cgid=marcum-accessories

Anyone going to bite the bullet and get one?
I don't see the LX-9 being a supported unit for this, even know it's basically a LX-7?? Maybe the rate of consumption on the 9 is greater than the 7? Lithium batteries can be a tricky beast!

The battery alone is probably $100-150. But yes, it is not cheap! Definitely looks nice though.

i'll buy one. 41 hours on a single charge is great! i have been waiting for the Li-po/lithium 12 volt to be more stable for us sonar users and it is not popular here yet, but this should change that.

you may want to watch the you tube video on where to place the transducer. it goes upside down and in the rear of the unit.. it looks like it is meant to be used w/o the soft shell carrying case being it has rod holders and the ducer placement in the rear.

the lx9 maybe heavy on the back with the added camera, so maybe they didn't mention it for that reason. i don't bring the camera much, so it won't be any problem to use it like a lx7.

Got a reply from Marcum. The LX-9 is compatible with the shuttle, but there are no clips for the camera pouch...
I think i can deal with that! LOL

I thought I enjoyed ice fishing but if people are fishing for 40 hours straight then I need to step it up!

I have yet to drain through a full battery after fishing sun-up to sun-down. This will be my 4th winter with it so I might need to replace the battery (for $25) this year. Is a lithium ion battery really necessary or is it just about having the "best of the best". I could buy 10 batteries for that price which would last me 30+ years...The dual USB ports would be nice though, I suppose this set-up could replace a battery box inside a portable.

IDO forum had some discussion on the shuttle.

Some great photos of the unit in that thread from James Holst.

i run LED lighting for (quick) charging and fishing in the dark. it's a COB bar type daytime running light from amazon and it does run the sla battery down and i carry a spare because of it. this will resolve that problem and offer 2/3 less weight and have 12 amp hours instead of 8 amp hours (stock). it gets dark around 5pm and i fish til midnight at times. depends on the bite and company. so that's up to seven hours with the lighting on nonstop plus the day time fishing on the battery. i start around 3pm. so that's up to nine hours fishing and i fish a lot. on digital display, the sun tries to fade them away so you turn up the back light. the back light is one of the biggest battery killers on board besides the high power output of the sonar. like your smart phone, if you turn it to see in strong day light it kills your battery much faster.
the LED lighting i use is hot glued to the bottom of the head unit and works very well as you can see. i can grab the sonar and fish all the holes i have with out needing a head lamp on and it's always there. with this shuttle having a light w/o knowing the throw of it, i will leave my LED lights on my head unit and see if i still need them. I like how this set up works and having an optional light with this shuttle will be nice if it works even better than i think it will. maybe i can change the LED to a ultraviolet one for charging bait.

mine showed up today.  i did take un-boxing photos i can put some up later.
here's what i can share.

*the bucket is in a sealed 5 gal  you have to open it like a new bucket of paint. at least you know it's not used or would think that as hard as it is to open.

*the front light is on a momentary switch and does not offer full time fishing light like i thought it would be. i will keep my COB LED lighting intact.

*the switch is off/on/light. when you turn iton the battery indicator lights up at 72% and the USB charge ports light up in blue.

*the USB charge ports are 3.1 amps it has a vinyl cap that flips up instead of allowing gravity hold it down. it can be damaged or torn off, but is attached.

*the base has screw in inserts on both side to hold some thing, but not sure yet what they are for.

*the base comes pre-drilled to mount your sonar on the base.

*carries a one year warranty. would be nice to be able to extend that some how. such as offer an extended warranty.

*feels like it weighs about 3 pounds.

*has dual articulating handle with locking spokes.

Is it a regular size 5 gallon bucket  or oversized like pool chemical bucket ?. Not liking the momentary switch . I believe the screw holes are standard 1/4 20 ...for Ram type mounts ...you can then add options for GPS ...cellphones etc

Turns out the light switch is a stay on type and not a momentary. The ducer arm is bolted on so tight that it was pushing on the bottom of the switch. the bucket is a standard 5 gal size. 12 x 14.5 inches.

After getting it put together i found ir leans hard forward when you lift it.

It is still heavy with out the camera and a few pounds lighter than the stock shuttle.
Adding the camera bag will help with the balance like does with the stock shuttle.

The lx9 will nor fit the bucket with head leaning at the stock angle. You have to loosen the side screws on the head so it points straight up and then it's a tight fit, but fits.

The run times and being made for it and the features are why i bought it, so yes i am glad to have one to use this upcoming season.
I was concerned about using this type of battery. With marcum selling it for their units, it takes my concerns away.
They should have put the battery to the rear to help balance it is the biggest issue i can see with it.

They did add a float tray for folks that still use them. It has a drain slot that empties into the rear center rod holder and that drains out the rear of that.

I think the built in light will be fine and i can retire the cob lighting.

The extra ram mounts sounds great too.

I have two lithium lifepo4 batteries wired in parallel. Which holds voltage to same as one battery but doubles the AH. In my case @ 48 AH and it only weighs about 5 lb. Overkill probably but I rather have way too much than run out. Expensive but cheaper than this shuttle.

Running a 9 in Garmin ECHOMAP 92sv with panoptix. Plus any lighting I care to use. Got everything bundled in an old milk crate with unit on top.

looking forward to using my new shuttle. a milk create seems a little bulky to hole hop for me. thanks tho.
i do use and enjoy garmin products and their newest sonar line up looks promising for other sonar manufactures to incorporate. i do watch them as the progress with time.

As a fellow hole hopper I understand your concern. But the main mission is to locate and catch fish. Covering a 200' diameter of any given area with just one hole. Helps to eliminate the reason to move continually. Not only that the panoptix tells which direction to move and how far. The Lake Vu Ultra map chip with hotspots also is a big help.

Just applying what I used in open water fishing onto the hard stuff. It is bulky but really light. Thanks to the Lifepo4 batteries. If it works the way it does on open water. The need to move to keep on the fish will be much faster and easier. Most guys carry something to mount their fish finder on anyways. To prevent bending on knees to see the display like the " experts" in the videos do. Just too darn old to do that anymore.

To me the increase of info is worth the bulk. To others it may not.

the shuttle idea is cool, but I like to keep my electronics protected in a case, the LX7/9 soft case is fine with a little modding of the strap.  How long before we see the first post of a opened Marcum bucket with a LX6/7/9 in pieces after a long run on the lake?

I would have really liked to see them build this shuttle that replaces the one in the existing soft pack..

for those who buy a new brushless M series or a new LX combo, the added shuttle price is only $150

Agree with you.  I would rather have a carryable soft case than a bucket.  Don't understand why they did not provide both.

Agree with you.  I would rather have a carryable soft case than a bucket.  Don't understand why they did not provide both.
because it looks like they tried to balance the shuttle better by removing the front platter to rest your transducer on when not in use. now it lays upside down in the rear of the unit next to two rod holders. kind of hard to do this with a casing around it all.
it is water tight enough for ice fishing. i wouldn't go scuba diving with it.

it also now has an adjustable angle carry handle and adjustable height. the soft side carry case would hinder this too.

i know i won't be using the bucket that came with it. there isn't much you can hurt on the unit with leads not being in the open/exposed energy and the rain/snow shield on the display. there is a warranty on it all if any thing goes wrong anyway. if some thing does go wrong, we always have the original shuttle to use while the new one gets repaired.

i think marcum was listening to the complaints of those who use buckets (must have had many of them) and couldn't get their lx6 to fit one, so they changed the shuttle they used to use (the lx6 used to use the lx7 shuttle) and switched to the lx5 shuttle. they gave the lx6 a different name after that so you would know which shuttle you were buying.
this new shuttle should become popular for more than just marcum brand because it does fit a bucket. at least that had been the complaint prior to the shuttle change on the lx6 and now this shuttle comes in a bucket so people know it fits one.

i know there is not many photos for people to check it out, so here are some of mine i took for you.

here you can see the slots built in for water draing for those who might still use a float system. under the handle is a tray for that with a drain slot that dumps into the rod holder that then drains out of the back. you can also see the handle slots that allow you to extend the handle up or down. the right pocket is the transducer stand and there are three hooks to weave the transducer cable around on the bottom and next to the stand.

one could use the battery charge port as a power tap in this lower picture.

i'll wait to see real world run times and how it holds up after a season, I like the idea, just wish it offered more protection for my $1,300 LX9

For those looking to use a LX-9 with it, you could easily buy some spare female snap connectors and attach them to the carry handle for the camera bag..

you should be able to mount your showdown onto the gimbal mount platform area. it is hollow underneath where the 4 pre-drilled holes are. you can see it is hollow looking at the third photo you can see the white plastic of the buckets lid thru the holes that are pre-drilled. seems like the showdown i had for a very short time (shipped with a damaged gimbal) had a tiny square foot print/mount that should fit easily.
